Glenville GAA News

Another win for the Junior Footballers showing good early season form on Monday night last with a comprehensive win over Dungourney.

A tight first have Glenville holding a one point lead and looked like a dogged second half in the making. Glenville moved up a few gears midway through with 1-7 without reply was the key to the end result. JJ Kearney the goal scorer after a great move involving a number of players sealed the points.

Our next league game in Junior Football is Cobh at home. Final Score Glenville 1-14 Dungourney 0-7.

Minor Footballers kick off their season Donoughmore were visitors to Glenville on Tuesday night in the new county minor A football league.

Glenville were well in control in this game and signs are encouraging for the year ahead with this performance. Shane Field and Brendan Moloney goals in the first half gave us a five point cushion at half time.

Good application from all the players who played resulted in a good start for this group of players. Although scores were scarce in the second the cushion built up in the first half was too much to trim and the Final Score of 3-6 to 0-6 was comfortable with a second Shane Field goal ending the game as a contest mid way through the second half.

Short a number of players for this game the Intermediate team put up a very creditable showing in Cloughduv on Thursday night when we faced Bantry in the 3rd league game. Blooding a few younger players for this game did them no harm at all and the experience will do them the world of good.

Bantry looked very sharp early on and threatened to over run us at times but when we settled and found our bearings we began to compete in all areas of the field. Scores from J Halbert P Cronin settled us but Bantry got through for the only goal on 20 minutes following with a point left us four adrift.

Luckily we managed to trim the lead to two at half time 1-3 to 0-4 and as the game aged Glenville looked the most likely team to win it. A number of missed scores looked like costing us the game. Two pointed frees gave us the lead for the first time in the 59th minute but a similar score from Bantry on the call of time levelled up this lively game. Glenville 0-9 Bantry 1-6 .

Paddy O Regan, Ger Cahill, John Halbert Pa Cronin and Sam Bracken showed up well on the night. We have a break for a few weeks from league action with hurling taking centre stage but our next game against St Nicks will be on weekend of March 26th, with Na Piarsaigh at home a week later.

Premier Intermediate Football Championship fixtures were released last week and Glenville will take the field against Mallow on Sunday May 8th, venue is Ballyanly (Inniscarra).

U14s continue to impress The same night as the Intermediate game the U14 team had a league game against Carrigtwohill in Fouhys. Glenville led all the way through this one playing some great football in the process. Carrig in fairness kept the game alive with well taken goals at different stages but in truth the result was never in doubt and Glenville had the extra edge in all areas and won out 7-14 to 5-3.

Kiltha Og the Dungourney and Castlemartyr combination is the next league game. U21 football championship on the horizon With Paddys weekend fast approaching traditionally signalling the commencing of the U21 football championship,

This game will be fixed Tuesday night so will have news on this on next week report .

Glenville continued preparations with a game against Muskerry outfit Clondrohid on Friday night last. Anthony Cronin getting the goal in the second half. This was a good game played in a sporting manner with the scores level at the end of the hour. Glenville 2-8 to Clondrohid 1-11. T
