14 March, 2009

Erins Own 5-14 Russell Rovers 1-04

Erins Own were comfortable winners in the opening game of the East Cork Minor A Football League in Caherlag today. From start to finish they were by far the better team. Cormac O Connor opened the scoring with a point in the 2nd minute and followed this with a goal soon after. Cathal O Mahony scored a hat trick of goals along with a point to leave the score at 4-6 to 0-3 at half time. Kevin Collins, David Smiddy and Andrew Power also got on the scoresheet in this half.

Aided by the wind in the second half Erins Own continued their complete dominance of this game and scored at will against a totally outclassed Russell Rovers outfit. Erins Own passed the ball well and played great football at times. Erins Own added a further 1-8 in this half the goal coming from Niall Scanlon when a shot from 20 metres beat the Rovers keeper.

Erins Own had fine performances from Jack Sheehan and Niall Scanlon in defence, Andrew Power in midfield while Cian O Connor, Cathal O Mahony and Cormac O Connor impressed in the forward line.
