Erins Own draw with Glenbower Rovers in 1st Round of Championship

Erins Own 1-07 Glenbower Rovers 0-10

Erins Own and Glenbower Rovers played out an exciting draw in the first round of the Junior A Football Championship in Youghal tonight. Erins Own opened brightly with Shane Murphy scoring a fantastic goal after two minutes. We were well on top in the opening quarter but missed some good scoring chances.

Kieran “Hero” Murphy added a point on seven minutes and Shane Murphy scored a great point from a long distance free against the wind soon after. Andrew Power added another point on fifteen minutes and Shane added a “45” 2 minutes later. We failed to score for the remainder of the 1st half leaving the score at 1-04 to 5 points at half time.

Glenbower Rovers started the 2nd half stronger and levelled the game after 2 minutes. Andrew Power scored our 1st point of the half 10 minutes in. We played some good football in patches and it took a great save from the Glenbower keeper to deny Shane Murphy a goal mid way through the half. Glenbower took the lead two minutes from the end but a spectacular points from Eoghan Murphy levelled the game.

Erins Own looked to have won the game when a great move involving Kieran Murphy, Niall Scanlon and Eoghan Murphy resulted in the lead point for Erins Own in the 33rd minute. However Glenbower Rovers broke upfield from the kick out and scored the equaliser with the last kick of the game.
