Kelleher Shield

Glenville 1-07
Castlehaven 2-08

On Saturday night last Glenville made the long journey to Castlehaven to take on the home side in round 2 of the Kelleher Shield Division 1. In very blustery conditions it was Castlehaven who opened the scoring with a pointed free, minutes later Ger Cahill kicked over a good point to draw level. Castlehaven playing against the wind kicked over another point and then made a great move to score a good goal to 4 points clear. Glenville replied well and kicked over 2 further points from Paudie Cahill. Glenville began to play good football and battle hard to marshall the castlehaven attack. Castlehaven kicked over a point from a free before Paudie Cahill slooted over a close in free. Just before the interval Castlehaven had another point to leave Castlehaven in front at the break by 1-04 to 0-04. Playing against the wind in the second half was always going to make it hard for Glenville but this was made even harder when Catlehaven made a brilliant start to the second half and had a goal and a point in the opening 5 minutes of the restart. This left Glenville 7 points behind but Glenville rallied and battled hard to get back in the game. Paudie Cahill kicked over a point from play and a free to reduce the deficit to 5 points. Castlehaven replied with a point of there own. Glenville began to dominate at this point in the game due to good work from Brendan Healy, Paddy O Regan, Eoin o Reilly in defence and Ger Cahill, John o Keeffe and Des Ryan around the middle of the field. Then Glenville got themselves right back in to the game when a long ball in was won by Noel Cahill who layed if off to Paudie Cahill who cooly slotted to the back of the net. This left the score 2-06 to 1-06 and Glenville were right back in the game. Glenville battled hard in the last ten minutes to salvage something from the game but Castlehaven were next to score with a long range point from play, Kieran Coalkey replied with a point from a free to leave 3 between the sides but it was Castlehaven who got the last point of the game to run out winners 2-08 to 1-07. This was a very spirited performance from glenville and they can take a lot of heart and confidence after competing and playing some very good football against an experienced Castlehaven outfit.
