U-15 FC “C” Final, Mar 8th 2009

Carrignavar 1-13 (16)

Lisgoold 1-6 (9)

At Carrignavar

Lisgoold were going into this Final with some confidence with a good win over Midleton the previous weekend. A victory looked on the cards as they led 1-4 to 0-5 at half time however, the class of Carrignavar showed in the second half as they carved the defence once too often and ended up as winners by seven points.

John Cashman led well at midfield, Cian Scannell and Cathal Cashman played well also, however they just could contain the physicality of Robert Burke at the full forward for Carrig as he hit some lovely scores and set-up some nice ones as well. Our lads can hold their heads up high as they played with spirit and pride and no doubt their day will come. With the likes of Cian, Cathal, John, Donnacha and Andrew coming through the future of this club is very bright indeed.

Team: Rob Conway, Andrew O’Donovan, Mikey Savage, Brian O’Connell, Cathal Cashman, Mike Barry, John Cashman, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Kevin O’Keeffe, Cian Scannell, Donnacha Moyniahan, Martin Conroy, Bill Whelan.

Scorers: John Cashman 1-4, Cian Scannell 0-1, Bill Whelan 0-1.

Referee: Paddy Russell (Bride Rovers)

JFL Division 2, Mar 8th 2009

Lisgoold 0-8

Dungourney 0-7

At Lisgoold

AT noon last Sunday we had showdown, with our near neighbours Dungourney as they clashed for the 2nd time this season. The game looking back, matched the conditions it was played in, absolutely awful. It bad, winter like conditions, Lisgoold arose from the muck to take a one point win.

Lisgoold started brightly with points from Clifford and Wayne. John Cody for the ‘Duns’ kept them in it with a few frees, but Lisgoold tore into the Dungourney defence and raced into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead, thanks to some frees from Paul and Wayne. In the second half Lisgoold seemed to build up ahead of steam and looked like to runaway with the game until Barry Ahern missed a golden opportunity and suddenly there came a revival. With some excellent defending from Dungourney and great free-taking from the flawless John Cody, made the scores level and we looked like heading for a draw. With a minute to go however Mike O’Shea, raced up from wing back to squeeze the winner over.

It was a very disappointing match and another disappointing performance, hopefully our form (and the weather) will improve for next Sunday’s clash with Cobh.

Team: JP Rohan, Noel Connery, Micheál O’Se, Patrick O’Mahony, Moss O’Connell, Brian O’Leary, Mike O’Shea, Alan Conroy, Eoin O’Riordan, Barry Ahern, Brian Clifford, John Cronin, Paul Stack, Wayne Kingston, Kevin O’Shea.

Scorers: Brian Clifford 0-2, Paul Stack 0-2 (0-1 f), Wayne Kingston 0-2 (frees), Barry Ahern 0-1, Mike O’Shea 0-1.

Subs: Charles Smart for Alan Conroy, Finbarr Brosnan for Noel Connery (injured), Conor Walsh for Barry Ahern (injured), Jamie Woods for Paul Stack.

Club Book Appeal

There is a book being created in regards to the history of our club. This book will be well-worth buying and will sure to be a “bestseller” when released. However, to add a bit of colour to book, it is deemed that photographs would be necessary to make it one to savour. So, an appeal is being made that anyone within (or outside) the parish, who has photos (past or present) of Lisgoold GAA, please send them into John Joe Regan ASAP. You can also contact him on 0863327642. This book is due to be published shortly, and it will be a great read for any Lisgoold supporter.
