A.G.M. on Wednesday Night

The Annual General Meeting of the club will be held in the Clubrooms on next Wednesday night December 8th at 8pm. The A.G.M. will review 2010 and make plans for 2011. The season just ended was an eventful one. Events surrounding our participation in the Cork Co. Senior Hurling Championship dominated the news - for all the wrong reasons. Much of the summer was taken up with the controversaries surrounding our 'back door' senior hurling team. When we eventually got going in the competition again we had two good wins over Blarney and Carrigtwohill. Our repeat of the 2008 Co. Senior Hurling Championship final against Sars however was a huge disappointment and we were well beaten by the eventual county champions. Our only win in any adult competition for this year was the Division 2 Junior Football League title. Our second and third hurling teams gave some spirited displays but our Minor and U-21 teams in both codes were well beaten. Off the field, work has commenced on new training facilities for the future. All outgoing members, players and supporters are asked to attend the meeting in the Clubrooms on Wednesday night next.

Minors Lose League Final

Cobh 0-11 Bride Rovers 0-3

After a great first half display our Minor hurling team were well beaten by Cobh in the East Cork League final last Sunday morning. While Cobh were stronger, we missed several good scoring chances, especially early in the second half when the game was there for the taking. The game was played in Arctic-like conditions in Rathcormac. The first half was a ding-dong struggle. Our defence was well on top with Paul Dee, Barry Collins and Jason Pratt dominating. We had 2 wides before Jason Mannix had our first point. Cobh led by three points to one but a second point (from a free) by Jason Mannix left us just a point adrift at the break, 0-3 to 0-2. Cobh had a quick point on the restart. The next ten minutes were scoreless but we missed a few great chances and the Cobh goalie denied a certain goal. Cobh eventually weathered the storm to start scoring points - they added eight in the second half. Our solitary score came from Stephen O'Leary to leave the Cobh side winners by 0-11 to 0-3. While it was disappointing to lose, great credit is due to the team for putting up a good display.
