Strong Imokilly Performance at Scór Sinsear County Final
02 March, 2009
Roinn Uí Mac Choille took four titles out of the eight competitions at the 40th Anniversary Scór Sinsear County Final in Éire Óg GAA Club, Ovens, on Sunday March 1st.
Proceedings on the night were in the capable hands of Fear an Tí Ger Lane, current PRO of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí and an East Cork man himself. Imokilly did not compete in the Rince Foirne competition, but were represented in the other seven categories. Despite strong performances from Don Hegarty (Carraig na bhFear) and John Motherway (Aghada), the Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo Singing) was won by Freemount, with Kilshannig in the runners-up spot. Imokilly went on to claim the next three titles, as the Cloyne team of Michael Greaney, Jason Perry, John Cronin and Margaret Healy won the Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Music), while Catríona Howard (Bride Rovers) won the Aithriseoireacht (Recitation) with a performance from John B. Keane’s The Field. Carrig na bhFear were the winners in Bailéad Ghrúpa, with the team of Kitty Cronin, Catherine Meehan, Imelda Warner, Colin O’Driscoll and Eddie Quinlan performing ‘Ride On’ and ‘Molly na Gruaig Ní Chuilleanáin’.
After the break, East Cork scored a one-two in the Nuachleas (Novelty Act) section, with Bride Rovers’ ‘The Sunday Game’ coming second to Lisgoold’s entertaining ‘The Airport’, performed by Jennette Caulfield, Yvonne O’Keeffe and Elaine Bradley. Despite good performances by Imokilly representatives Lisgoold and Carrig na bhFear in Rince Seit, top spot went to the accomplished Millstreet. The final competition was Tráth na gCeist, with special guest quizmaster Iar-Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael Seán Kelly. The quiz was won by Millstreet with an impressive score of 46, but the Glenville team of Tadhg Fitzgerald, Frank Halbert and Enda Mahony put in a strong performance to finish second. Best Overall Club went to Carbery Rangers.
The Cork winners now go forward to the Munster Semi-final which takes place in Éire Óg on Saturday, March 7th at 7pm. The latest Scór news can be checked on www.scorchorcai.com.
