Lisgoold News

08 November, 2010

The second annual running of the Lisgoold GAA 5k road race took place over a new course on Sunday , and attracted an overall field of over 100 runners on a most beautiful autumnally cool morning that was perfect for road racing . The race course , specially chosen by Lisgoold man Roy Fahy , a recent winner of the Cork City Marathon and numerous other races , proved to be very popular amongst the elite runners and the fun runners . The race was , again this year , well supported not only by the wider racing community , but our local community also , and it is humbly acknowledged that events like this would not be possible without the continued support of everyone in our Community .

The winner of the elite category was the very popular local James McCarthy , who set a new Lisgoold 5k record in a time of 15.50 blitzing the field with his front running style . First lady home was Gillian Cotter in 19.52 and we had very many category prizes also. Race day 2011 is provisionally pencilled in for 5 November , so plenty time to train to beat that PB !!

This year , a new juvenile race attracted great interest and a large field , as well as a photo finish , and category winners included Leanne Woods , Brian O'Farrell , Jack Northridge , Shane Murray , Izaak Walsh , Diarmuid Healy and Kane Walsh .

Lisgoold GAA Club would also like to thank all our sponsors and Organising Committee , as well as those who helped provide the most welcome extensive range of refreshments available at the finish line . The full list of sponsors and finishers are available on the Club website .

The winning numbers in this weeks lotto jackpot draw were 3 , 15 and 30 and , yet again , we had no ticket that matched the numbers drawn . Therefore the Jackpot Prize continues to grow with another roll over week, and now stands at an impressive €1,600. If you are thinking of how this would help with your Christmas shopping , why not purchase a line in this weeks draw , and support the Club at the same time . Congratulations to the Consolation Prize winners this week , who were Mary Stack, Tom Coleman, Mary O Keeffe and Jerry O Shea .
