U-15 FC “C” Semi Final, Mar 1st 2009

Lisgoold 6-7 (25)

Midleton 4-6 (18)

At Midleton

A good start to the weekend came in regards to the U15’s overcoming the challenge of a very determined Midleton second string, last Sunday morning. Led by John Cashman at Midfield, and Cian Scanell in attack, Lisgoold played some nice football but a concern arose for the amount of goals that were conceded if they are to take this title this weekend. Donnacha also had a good a game as well as Mikey Savage. This was a good performance, but we will be underdogs to highly-talented Carrignavar side.

I urge everyone to come out and support this team, as they try and make history by winning Lisgoold’s first ever title at this grade. Please check locally for this fixture, as match was not yet fixed, going to print.

Team: Declan Geaney, Andrew O’Donovan, Mikey Savage, Rob Conway, Cathal Cashman, Mike Barry, John Cashman, Fiachra O’Sullivan, Kevin O’Keeffe, Cian Scannell, Donnacha Moyniahan, Martin Conroy, Bill Whelan.

Scorers: Donnacha Moyniahan 3-1, John Cashman 1-6, Cian Scannell 1-0, Kevin O’Keeffe 1-0.

JFL Division 3, Mar 1st 2009

Cloyne 3-9 (18)

Lisgoold 1-7 (10)

At Cloyne

Sunday afternoon, our second team togged out but had a clash of matches with the 1st team (with some players been needed for the later match) and also due to injury, Lisgoold were restricted to sixteen, but this was a different performance from last week. It seemed to be unanimous that Cloyne would walk away with the points on offer as being led by Victor Cusack and Declan Motherway, they were ahead 0-7 to 0-0 at half-time. With a stifling breeze in the second half though, Lisgoold roared back and were inspired by (in this writers’ opinion) the most extraordinary goal seen in the fields of Cumann Luthcleas Gael. Jamie Woods had a superb shot hit off the crossbar only for Rob (Our Aussie Import!!!) to superbly head the ball in from 10 yards out. This was appreciated even by the Cloyne crowd as a great goal and surely the likes of it won’t be seen again.

With that creative score, Lisgoold surged back to lead by a point. However with 11 minutes to go Cloyne got a goal. The game was in the balance until 2 minutes to go. With Cloyne ahead by two, they proceeded to score two quick goals in succession and thus, killed the Lisgoold challenge. This was a vastly improved performance from last week with likes of Noel, John Paul and especially Dave Barry shining. The positives out of it was Lisgoold’s ability to take their chances when received and also the link-up play in the second half, but surely the highlight of the game was the Aussie’s use of the ‘Ceann’. It may have been a defeat, but it was a very entertaining match.

Team: Owen Hegarty, Paul O’Brien, Noel O’Riordan, Moss Mulcahy, Denis O’Brien, Finbarr Brosnan, Mike O’Riordan, John Paul O’Brien, Charles Smart, David O’Sullivan, Jamie Woods Dave Barry, Rob O’Donoghue, Timmy O’Callaghan, Peter Leahy.

Scorers: Jamie Woods 0-3 (0-2 Frees), Charles Smart 0-3, Rob O’Donoghue 1-0, Dave Barry 0-1.

Subs: Michael Beirne for Moss Mulcahy (injured).

JFL Division 2, Mar 1st 2009

Lisgoold 1-10 (13)

Russell Rovers 0-5 (5)

At Lisgoold

IN glorious sunshine, Lisgoold finally got their Division 2 League campaign underway. The management had to rush home in time for the 3 O’clock clash against Russell Rovers. However, they may not have to be in such a hurry as what was served up can only be described as very dour encounter between two committed sides. Some good scores by Wayne and Kevin in the first half and fine goal by Alan, seem to have Lisgoold on the way to the first two points of the League Season as they 1-4 to 0-0.

But in the second half, the large Lisgoold following were treated to a poor display as yet again (like the previous Wednesday night) sloppiness was creeping again and frustration set in as poor shooting (from both sides) and very slow play developed in the second half but Lisgoold managed to hold out for a eight point win. With the first match of the Championship only two weeks away, it is hard to take anything positive out of it as the majority of the match was played at a very slow pace and no doubt if we are to take on Cobh, Lisgoold must up the ante considerably in training in the next few weeks.

Team: JP Rohan, Charlie McCarthy, Micheál O’Se, Patrick O’Mahony, Moss O’Connell, Finbarr Brosnan, Mike O’Shea, Alan Conroy, Eoin O’Riordan, Conor Walsh, Brian Clifford, John Cronin, Paul Stack, Wayne Kingston, Kevin O’Shea.

Scorers: Paul Stack 0-3 (0-2 Frees), Alan Conroy 1-0, Kevin Shea 0-2, Brian Clifford 0-2, Wayne Kingston 0-1, Moss Connell 0-1, Conor Walsh 0-1

Subs: Kieran O’Shea for Conor Walsh.
