Jimmy Healy Perpetual Tournament adopted by St Ita’s GAA

28 February, 2009

St. Ita’s hurling club of Gortroe in East cork has begun their new season by adopting this fine cup from long serving member Jimmy Healy. Jimmy and his family donated the cup to the club 2 years ago as an incentive for an opener to their season. Jimmy is a native of Gotroe and is a practising physiotherapist in the town of Youghal. He has worked with club members over the years and his service had benefited every one in the village of Gortroe and the parish of Youghal.

To celebrate this, a pre-season match between the panel of 32 players was fought out on a score line of 4-12 to 4- 11 on Saturday 28th Feb at their home in Pilmore. The match was won by the White team and the cup was collected by Captain Ed Coleman at the reception in the Quality Hotel in Youghal. “This a great start to the season “Ed explained on receiving the cup. “ I have been hurling for the last 6 years with the club and I am very encouraged to see the crowd that played today”.

St. Ita’s won the Cork County Junior B title for the first time in the club’s history in 2007. Since then they have stepped up to A Grade championship in East Cork and this will be their second year at this grade. Also this year they are fielding in the B grade championship in East Cork.

St. Ita’s will continue their pre-season with a challenge match against Glen Rovers in Cork next week-end.
