Minor Football Championship Final

Lios gCul 4.06 Bride Rovers 2.10

Leaving Castlelyons after this game , we were reminded of an incident recounted by Tyrone manager Mickey Harte in his autobiography "Blessed" where an underage side he coached ( Eiregal Ciaran ) rebounded from a heavy league defeat to defeat their conquerors in a subsequent championship decider . Having tasted defeat to Bride Rovers in a league game less than a month ago , we needed to deliver on the "bouncebackability" factor to have any chance in this Championship Final . Well , it seems that our version of Mickey Harte , Minor Manager Owen Hegerty , created a turnaround that the Red Hand maestro would be proud of , to annex this Championship victory for a famous three-in-a-row . Captain Jamie Woods was the third Lisgoold captain in succession to take ownership of the laurels of victory at Minor Football level, and he capped a fine individual performance with a crucial goal as the game reached a pulsating and exciting climax . Both sides can take extreme credit for the quality of play on show , and the extraordinary levels of sportsmanship and respect throughout a very tense and close encounter. Coach Noel Connery had his side in peak physical condition for the tie , a fact that will , no doubt , be of benefit as the County Championship nears . The draw for the County sees us play Muskerry side Kilmichael or Clondrohid , a game that will be played soon , so watch for details of this game locally .

John McCarthy turned in another outstanding display in the East Cork Final, and he was well supported by a fantastic play making performance from Cian Scannell and goal scorers Killian Kingston (2) and Fiachra O'Sulivan.

A huge slan leat to the very popular Giligan family who have moved to Dubai this week . In a short period of time living in our midst , Cormac and Doreen have made an indelible mark on our Community and will be sorely missed . Cormac , a former County Meath Inter County Footballer , gave effortlessly of his time whilst in Lisgoold , toiling as a selector on our Football teams , and training the "Having a Ball" Under 6 sessions on Saturday mornings . The Saturday sessions will be poorer for the absence of the trademark familiar smile and the wraparound dark shades of the Giant Meath man with the warm heart . We hope that Cormac , Doreen , Cian and Ryan enjoy their new home in Dubai , where the local expats and natives will quickly acknowledge that their gain is our sole loss. We hope that you will always remember with fondness the small area of East Cork that you made your home , which took you to our hearts , and where you will always be welcome . Slat leat folks .

Firstly , congratulations to newly crowned County Hurling Champions , our near neighbours Sarsfields , to whom we wish every success as they represent Cork in the Munster and All Ireland Club Championships . It would be great to see further silverwear return Leeside , and particularly to East Cork . Also to our own Juvenile Hurlers after their very successful Trip to Tipp on Saturday . And finally , best wishes to Conor Counihan , whose defence of the Sam Magure sees an initial step versus Clare , and Denis Walsh , who starts his Hurlers Campaign against All Ireland Champions Tipperary in Thurles . Here's to a big year for everyone .
