Bride Rovers GAA Club Notes.

Minor Footballers Lose Out in Final.

At floodlit Castlelyons on Friday night last our Minor Footballers were beaten in the championship Final by Lisgoold. Three first half goals saw Lisgoold lead by 3 3 to 1 4 at the break. We staged a great come back in the secondd half and just a point was between the sides with five minutes to go. We missed several chances to level up the game and then conceded a further 1 1 before Jason Mannix converted a late, late penalty to leave the final score Lisgoold 4 6 Bride Rovers 2 10. All is not lost however for the minor footballers as they will go forward to the County League. Thanks to the Castlelyons Club for the use of their magnificent facilities on the night.

Team; F. Hogan, B. Collins, A. Buckley, F.Collins, J. Pratt, R. O Connor, D. Buckley, O. Murphy, D. Quinn, K. Cahill, G. Healy, J. Mannix. Subs S. O Leary & L. O Leary.

Red FM Senior Hurling League V Na Piarsaigh.

We travelled to Cnoc An Aonaigh to complete this league fixture on Sunday afternoon.

Initially we were lucky to muster 15 players and as 3.00p.m.beckoned we selected the following team to take to field--Denis Fitzgerald, Fergus Collins, Brendan O'Driscoll, James Murphy, Jason Pratt, Brendan Walsh, Aidan Collins, Stephen Pratt, Kieran Collins, John O'Dowd, Jerome O'Driscoll, Michael Collins, Eoin Murphy, Alan Broderick and David Burke. As we took the field Sean Ryan and Pat Walsh arrived to enhance our panel.

We started slowly and found ourselves 3 points down in 5 minutes, we then got into our stride and levelled matters by 10 minutes with points from Stephen Pratt, David Burke and Eoin Murphy, We then took the lead with a further point from David. Until the 25 minute points were exchanged and then Alan Broderick struck an excellent goal from 25 yards(this being his first senior game for the club and in fact it was the first score from play from Alan in his long and distinguished hurling career for the club--he has always played in defence, though he scored some frees as a juvenile many years ago). The score at half-time was 1-9 to 0-11 in our favour.

Na Piarsaigh started brightly in the second half and we were punished for indiscretions as John Gardiner scored 9 points from frees and he also scored some wonderful points from play. A mix up in our defence allowed them in for 2 fortutious goals which put the match beyond our reach as Sean Og was marshalling his defence tightly.

However we did not lie down and scored a further 1-3 in the second half--the goal coming from John O'Dowd(also in his first senior game after a long career with the club). Sean Ryan and Pat Walsh were introduced as subs in the 2nd half for Jason Pratt and Alan Broderick.

Scorers; Alan Broderick 1-0, John O'Dowd 1-0, David Burke 0-2, Jerome O'Driscoll 0-3, Kieran Collins 0-2, Eoin Murphy 0-2, Michael Collins 0-1, Stephen Pratt 0-1, Aidan Collins 0-1.

Final Score Bride Rovers 2-12 Na Piarsaigh 3-20.

Welcome Visitor.

On Monday last the Sam Maguire Trophy was a very welcome visitor to both National Schools in the Parish.

Cork Senior Footballers Paudie Kissane and Paul O Flynn brought the famous trophy accompanied by Cork Senior Hurler Brian Murphy. Thanks to the Pupils, Teachers and parents in both schools and to Ger Lane and Donal McCarthy for arranging the visit. The last time 'Sam' came to the parish was in 1990 when Denis Walsh came with the Cup.
