Junior Football League

Glenville: 0-07 Carrigtwohill: 1-06

On Friday night last under lights in Carrigtwohill, Glenville took on the home side in round 3 of the East Cork Junior Football League Division 1. This was a very good game of football and closely contested right through.

Glenville started the brightest and had the opening score on the board with a Richie Cahill point. This was cancelled out minutes later with a carrigtwohill pointed free. Glenville began to get on top and with points from Dennis Buttimer, Mossy Barry and Richie Cahill took the lead. Carrigtwohill responded with a further couple of pointed frees to keep them in contingent. Glenville hit a number of bad wides before the interval but were still in the driving seat with a two point advantage. 0-5 to 0-3.

The second half was very low scoring as both sets of forwards were finding it very difficult to get by the defence in both teams. Carrigtwohill kicked over the opening point in the second half but this was cancelled out minutes later with a Richie Cahill free. Carrigtwohill kicked over another point from play to leave just 1 point between the sides with 15 mins to play.

Both sides were finding it hard to get scores and a goal in this game would be vital and with ten minutes of play remaining the carrigtwohill corner forward got around the Glenville backs and hit the back of the net wtih a fine goal. Both sides swaped points in the closing stages but the goal proved vital, Glenville tried there hardest to snatch victory all the way to the end but Carrigtwohill stood firm and ran out winners by 2 points, 1-06 to 0-07.
