ALL IRELAND 7's

The long journey from Junior B Hurling grade a short pair of years ago to Divisional , and further National respectability took another small step forward over the All Ireland weekend in Dublin . The long journey from East Cork to Dublin is , of course , shortened by the terrific road improvements over the past few years , but the journey home must have been readily enjoyed as the warmth of relative success still a memory .

Our preparation for the St Jude's All Ireland Junior Hurling 7's had gone well , and sharp swift stickwork , allied to a pace and youth that might , just might , provide an opportunity to showcase our Club on the national stage .

The trip up on Friday was uneventful , and an early night on Friday pointed to a solid attitude for the day to follow . First up in opposition were hosts , St Jude's , whom
we dispatched on a 1.07 to 1.01 scoreline . As anyone who has experienced the 7's game will testify , goals are a premium in this game , and the next games , which saw victories over Glen Rovers (6.06 to 1.00) and over Salthill (5.10 to 1.03) was pointing out our side as one to watch as the afternoon would progress .

At this stage the familiar "beep beep beep beep" announcing an incoming text message was rebounding around the parish as the CLUBTEXT service interrupted dinner , under age coaching , farming and many other social and work based activities as excitement and anticipation grew .

The final group game (a win over Eire Og by 1.14 to 1.04) was academic as we had already qualified for the All Ireland Quarter Final . A wonderful performance saw us defeat Robert Emmetts on a 4.06 to 0.02 scoreline . Unbelievably , Lisgoold , from the tiny parish outside Midleton , were IN AN ALL IRELAND SEMI FINAL !

Tired limbs and weary bodies were dragged to the limit once again , but this was where the dramatic day was to end , as we fell on a 1.11 to 4.06 score to Galway side Padraig Pearses .

Congratulations to all involved . The panel was ...
Ciaran Cronin , John Cronin , Maurice O'Connell , Jer O'Connell , Noel Connery , Rob Smart , Charles Smart , Barry Ahern , John McCarthy , Patrick O'Mahony
