Cork County Minor Board
Preview
Due to the Cork Minor Footballers involvement in the forthcoming All-Ireland Final, after their dramatic victory over Galway last weekend, a number of Co Minor Championship games have been deferred until after that date but nevertheless the coming weekend sees championship action for a number of clubs.
In the Co Premier 1 Hurling Championship Qtr/final Midleton and Blarney clash in Caherlag on Monday evening. Midleton will enter this game as favourites due to the strength of their panel but Blarney will not be unfazed and after their confidence building success over Sarsfields last time out they will be completely focused on this game and nothing would please them more than putting one over on their opponents. The winners of this game will meet St Finbarrs in the Semi-Finals.
In Co Premier 2 Hurling there are three games down for decision. This evening Church Road is the venue for the meeting of Bandon and Killeagh/Itas. Both these sides have a number of talented players in their ranks which will make for an interesting contest where the final result will always be in the balance and it could take a lucky break either way before the issue is decided with Cloughdubh awaiting the winners in the Qtr/Finals.
Also this evening there is a Qtr/Final game in Carrigtwohill where Ballinhassig meet Fermoy. Both these sides went through at the first time of asking when Ballinhassig proved too strong for Fr O’Neills while their opponents held off the strong challenge of Kilbrittain. This game promises the be a closely fought encounter which will go down to the wire with only a point or two dividing the sides at the final whistle.
The third game in this competition is on Sunday evening when Courcey Rvs take on Eire Og in Brinny at 6.30. Hard to call on this game as you can be sure the both side will be all out to advance to the Semi-Finals where the winners will meet Castlelyons.
Please Note: The next meeting of the Cork Co Minor Board will be held in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Thursday night next (9th September) at 9.00 pm. The leagues cut-off date has now been extended to Sun. 26th Sept. so it is hoped that all outstanding games will be finalised before this meeting.
