Family Fun Weekend - Friday/Saturday/Sunday - 30th - 1st August

What a weekend, it was a first for Youghal G.A.A. and one that we can be proud off. We started off the weekend on Friday Night with our Chairman Seanie Ring officially launching the weekend and Fr. Winkle giving us a short blessing. This was followed by an interclubs Superstar where nine clubs competed agility, strength, games all overseen by Peter Coady, Fergal Keenaghan and Dave Kilgannon. The night proved very popular with all and we also had our compare Vincie Murray keeping the crowd amused. We also had music by Planet Claire, and DJ. Barry and a barbeque by Le Gourmet. Superb night and we will definitely be doing the Superstars again so I hope you are all in training. (Winners on the night for the Mens were Youghal G.A.A. and the Ladies were Youghal Rugby). Thanks to all who competed on the night.

Saturday - started off with blitz's from 9.30 - 1.30 pm with great fun been had by all the children. All drinks for this blitz were kindly sponsored by Galvin's Costcutters. For the afternoon's entertainment!!! We had a game of football on the top field with ages from 6 to 60 playing. This proved to be hugely popular as a lot of the parents, male and females participated and the game was toughly contested throughout the afternoon. There was definitely a few sore muscles after this game but the craic was mighty! I would like to mention the ladies in particular who got all geared up for the day and won best dressed ladies for the match “Claire Kennedy and Catherine O'Shea”…. I hope you are all in training for the replay which will be announced shortly. Man of the Match I think will have to go to Cormac Galvin.

Thanks to Chris Morrission, Andrew Curtin and Ryan Coady who also helped out for the afternoon and congrats on the win on Wednesday boys.

Followed by this was a Car Treasure Hunt which stated with a shot gun start on the top field. All car keys were taken off all participants and they had to run the field to find their keys in the cones. Superb start with 10 questions on the sheet in areas from Farrell's Summerfield to Crowley's at Greencloyne. There was huge entertainment in this and all the participants loved it. With the chat afterwards about people climbing gates and getting mixes up with the questions. I'm still laughing at this one girls (Catherine/Nuala/Debbie/Kay!!!) The winners of the Car Treasure Hunt were the Galvin Family, (Cormac, Martina and kids) followed by Noel & Claire Kennedy and family. To finish off the night we had a 60-80's disco by D.J. Barry where we all learned some new moves and we also had the old favourite “Rock the Boat”.

Sunday (Fun, Fun, Fun): A full day's entertainment was available for all at Youghal G.A.A.

Agri Aware were on hand and all the kids loved petting the animals, Wobbly Circus were there in stilts, on their penny farthing and doing circus skills and tricks for the kids. Sumo Suits (Adults and Juvenile, this was hugely popular with the adults and kids). Running races, three legged race, spud and spoons, sack race were all competed for by all the children and some adults. Stalls and eating areas were also provided. All our fun characters were there (thanks Shannon/Chaela) with a superb line of music acts and bands for the day along with Stocks and Barrel's (no one escaped from this without landing a sponge and we also had take a chance). The day was beautiful and people were able to walk around and enjoy the day at their ease. We had a huge turnout and we thank all for helping out and supporting us during this weekend and we look forward to seeing you next year. To close the festival Wolfe Tones played and a superb night was had by all. Thanks again for supporting Youghal G.A.A.

Thank You

We would like to say a big word of thanks to GALVIN'S COSTCUTTERS YOUGHAL who sponsored our Kids Blitz Drinks on Saturday last for our Family Fun Weekend and they also sponsored the minerals for our Under 14's Footballers who were crowned East Cork Champions last Wednesday night at Castlemartyr after defeating Fr. O'Neill's in a great final. Many thanks to all at Galvin's Costcutters.

I would also like to thank Harvey Norman's EastGate for sponsoring some of our raffle prizes for our Family Fun Weekend.

We would also like to thank all the media partners that have helped us over the past couple of months by letting us advertise with them, having us on their programmes etc. this went along way to the success of the festival.
