Sars On Top In Local Derby

Erins Own lost out to Sars on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-12 tonight in the quarter final of the 2008 Senior Hurling League at Páirc Uí Rinn. In perfect conditions both teams were evenly matched with each enjoying periods of dominance and sharing the lead throughout the 1st half. Erins Own led by two points at half time on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-6 but Erins Own were denied goals following excellent saves by the Sars keeper from Alan Bowen and Maurice O’Carroll.

The second half was again a very close affair and both teams were level on 12 points each after 48 minutes. Sars stretched the lead to three points and Erins Own were chasing the game by the 58th minute. It took another excellent save by Alan Kennedy in the Sars goal to deny Eoghan Murphy an equalising goal. Sars scored the insurance point from the puck out to secure their place in the semi-final.
