Bride Rovers GAA Notes.

Junior B Hurling Championship.

Seventeen years ago, in 1993, we won the East Cork Junior B Grade Championship double. Back then we fielded just one adult hurling team and one adult football team. This year we are able to field three teams in adult hurling championships - and if we were pushed we'd nearly put out a fourth team! In 1993 John O Dowd was on the history making double teams and nearly two decades later he is still a valued Club Player. John lined out with our Junior B team in the East Cork Championship against Youghal last Wednesday night in Dungourney. This was Youghal's second side against our third and on the night the Seasiders proved too strong for our lads. Nevertheless we played some good hurling on the night in a game where former Passage player Kieran Woulfe came on a sub and made his championship debut with Bride Rovers. Well done to the twenty players who took part in the game. There is a 'back door' in this Championship this year but at the time of writing the draws have not been made.

Senior Hurling Championship.

Our Senior Hurling Championship game v Blarney was fixed for Pairc UI Chaoimh on next Sunday July 18th at 4 o clock. With Cork drawing the Munster Senior Hurling Final v Waterford last Sunday everything is now changed. The Munster Final Replay goes ahead on Saturday evening and our game goes off, probably until the following Sunday July 25th. We played Douglas in the Co SHL at home last Thursday night and lost by 1 20 to 3 8.

Junior Hurling League.

On this Thursday night we play Midleton(1) in a refixed JHL Div 2 game in Midleton at 8pm. This game was originally fixed for the morning of Bartlemy Races.

An ounce of Breeding…..

There is an old saying that "An ounce of Breeding is worth a ton of Feeding", well I was in Croke Park on Saturday last and witnessed the Dublin Hurlers having a very convincing win over Clare in the qualifiers. Full back for the Dubs was Tomas Brady from the Na Fianna Club. Tomas is a grandson of the late Patrick Fitzgerald of Garrycaheragh, Ballynoe and formerly of Fort Richard Bartlemy who was a founder member of the Bride Rovers Club in 1928. The Fitzgerald family have made immense contributions to Bride Rovers, Castlelyons and St. Catherines Clubs over many years.

Cork V Waterford.

It's back to square one for the hurlers of Cork and Waterford on next Saturday night. Having played out a 2 15 all draw on Sunday last they must do it all again for the right to be crowned Munster Champions for 2010. After a close tense, low scoring first half last Sunday both sides opened up in the second half. Cork looked likely winners coming down the home strait but Tony Browne, who made his Senior Debut with Waterford in 1991 popped up for a late, late equalising goal. Brian Murphy got on the score sheet for the Rebels, though playing at corner back. Over the past decade there's been precious little between these two teams and hopefully Saturday night will produce another game with plenty great hurling again. A reminder to fans travelling to Thurles for the 7pm game on Saturday night that Tickets will be on sale to the public on this Thursday night, July 15th, at Pairc Ui Rinn from 6 to 9pm. Terrace and Family Tickets will be available. The Munster Council has reduced the Price of all tickets for the replay. Best of luck to Cork.

LOTTO.
