Minor Hurling League - Lios gCul 6.06 Carrig na bhFearr 6.07
A dozen goals shared equally on a wet and slick Tuesday evening in Pairc Lios gCul saw hosts Lisgoold and visitors Carrig na bhFearr go "hammer and tongs" for an hour in a tough and pulsating Minor Hurling League encounter . Our visitors pulled off a marginally deserved victory , despite the best efforts of John McCarthy , John Cashman and Cian Scannell , whilst full backs Cathal Cashman and teak tough Robert Swayne repelled many an attack. A night that may have seen standards slide due to weather challenges saw the two sides conjure up a very favourable display that kept the wet attendance entertained in a twelve goal thriller where those who chose the Lisgoold minor game over the delights of Holland v Uruguay were rewarded with gaols which rivalled Van Bronkhurst's screamer in quality and style . Best wishes to Jamie Woods who suffered a horrible injury late in the game as he fights his way back to full fitness . At least it happened AFTER the exams , Jamie !!
Junior A Hurling Championship Lios gCul v Dungourney at Carrigtwohill , Sat July 17th at 7.30 pm - PREVIEW
The "do or die" backdoor championship encounter with close neighbours Dungourney nears , and , following our reversal against Gortroe based St Ita's last time out , we face our old foes at Carrigtwohill on Saturday in what should be a fine hours hurling . It's real Championship fare from now on , with the "lose and you're out" approach that'll add a tension to the proceedings . We've enjoyed many a battle with Dungourney , and expect more of the same on Saturday night .
As usual , manager Mike Woods will look to a solid defensive set up where Charles Smart and Patrick O'Mahony (who was excellent in round 1) will look to cement the sweeping excellence of evergreen Kevin O'Shea and Culbaire Ciaran Cronin.
Midfield duties should be shared by Dave Barry and Barry Aherne , with youthful Peter Leahy and experienced Finbarr Brosnan pushing hard for inclusion , whilst up front , we'll look to the likes of Rob Smart and Jonathon O'Shea for the scores that will be so crucial in pulling the side home .
We wish Manager Mike Woods , skipper Ciaran Cronin and all the squad the very best of luck on Saturday evening . At the time of going to print this fixture stands , but , following the late controversial equaliser for Waterford last weekend , and that replay fixed for the same time as ours, either the Lisgoold v Dungourney game or the Cork replay will surely have to be refixed ! Watch for details of that decision from HQ , which we'll announce locally.

Last week's teaser asked "who captained our Munster Championship Under 11 hurling side last Monday evening ?" , The answer was that the honour was bestowed upon promising young centre back Cian Healy who led his troops into battle with Clare champions Sixmilebridge at Kilmallock , Co Limerick . This week's poser asks if you know "Who captained the 1952 Championship winning side ? ". The answer will be provided , as usual , next week .
