Bride Rovers GAA Notes.

Senior Hurling Championship.on Sunday.

On next Sunday June 27th we play Glen Rovers in the Cork County Senior Hurling Championship. This is the 'back door' round of the competition where all the eight first round losers meet each other with the four winning teams progressing in the Championship. Both ourselves and the Glen lost the first round games but in very contrasting fashions. Our game v St Finbarrs and the Glen v Na Piarsaigh games

Formed a double header in the park three weeks ago. We were by far the better team in a dour game against the Barrs but somehow managed to lose. Having led for most of the game we didn't score for the last twenty two minutes while the Togher side hit over five points in a row to win by a single score, 0 -11 to 1 -7. It was a terrible game to lose. Na Piarsaigh destroyed the Glen in the second game but the Glen still managed to score 2 5 in a game which was of a far higher standard than our game against the Barrs. In a Senior Hurling League game last week the Glen defeated the Barrs by 2 18 to 1 10 so that gives us an indication of how hard it will be to beat the Blackpool side. With Brian Murphy suffering a serious injury whilst on duty with Cork on Sunday last we are definitely going to have a mammoth task on our hands. In recent years we've met the Glen in two major games. They defeated us by a point in the County Senior Hurling League Final in Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday February 3rd 2006 (2005 Final). The previous June we had defeated the Glen in the 'backdoor' game of the SHC. We had a great win by 3 15 to 1 13 on that occasion.

The team and Scorers were as follows, C O’Keeffe, A Collins, B Walsh, P Barry, P Walsh, B Murphy, J Murphy, T Broderick (0-2), B Murphy (2-0), D Ryan, P Murphy (0-1), B Johnson (1-3), P Cotter (0-3), S Ryan (0-1), B Hazelwood (0-5).

Sub: J O’Driscoll for P Cotter.

Next Sunday's game is on in Pairc Ui Chaoimh at 2.30 and once more we hope we will have the usual huge vocal support for the team. We are going into this game very much as the underdogs but that never bothers us. Go for it lads and best of luck.

JH Div 2 League V Youghal.

On Tuesday June 15th we played Youghal in Copperalley in Round 6 of the Division 2 of the East Cork JHL. We were under pressure from outset with our starting 15 as some of lads went to the wrong venue in the seaside town.

We started slowly and conceded 2 early frees which were tapped over the bar. Pat Walsh soon took control at midfield and Pat Cotter swung over 3 points. We then had a goal disallowed as it was palmed to the net. Youghal then went on a scoring spree with 5 unanswered points but a goal by Alan O Keeffe brought us back into the game and at half time we were ahead by 1-5 to 0-7. We conceded 2 goals early in the second half. On both occasions we were involved in good movements out of defence when we ran into tackles and lost possession and as a consequence we were chasing the game at 2-7 to 1-5. Some stout defending lead to some excellent attacks which Alan finished off by scoring 1-2. Some further good scores followed and we ran out winners by 2-11 to 2-7

Scorers: Alan O'Keeffe 2-2, Terry Broderick 0-2, Pat Cotter 0-3, Pat Walsh 0-2, Jason Mannix 0-1 and Ryan O'Connor 0-1. We wish Pat Cotter a speedy recovery from his injury as we need a full panel of players for the championship on the 3rd July.

Team:

Alan Broderick, Pat Barry, Brendan O'Driscoll, James Murphy, Stephen Walsh, Cormac Collins, Jim O'Connor, Pat Walsh, Michael Hogan, Ryan O'Connor, Eoin Murphy, Terry Broderick, Jason Mannix, Alan O'Keeffe, Pat Cotter. Subs: Liam Forde for Ryan O'Connor, Ryan O'Connor for Stephen Walsh, Gavin O'Flynn for Ryan O'Connor.

This was the Youghal team - their 'second string' which our third side will be meeting in the East Cork Junior B Grade Hurling Championship on July 7th in Midleton at 7.30.

J.H.2 League v Dungourney, Friday June 18th.

We travelled to Dungourney for Round 4 of the League

We started well, had plenty possession but we failed to put scores on the board. Finally we found our range for a period but during the first half we had a total of 12 wides. Outside of that statistic that we got some wonderful scores and led at half time by 2-7 to 1-2. Again in the second half we continued to be wayward in our shooting and by the final whistle we had amassed a grand total of 22 wides(ten players contributed to this unwanted tally). This was a tough physical game of hurling and we ran out comfortable winners in the end on a score of 2-17 to 1-4.

Scorers: Alan O'Keeffe 2-0, Terry Broderick 0-8, Pat Walsh 0-3, Cormac Collins 0-2, Richard Cahill 0-1, Gavin O'Flynn 0-1, Ryan O'Connor 0-1.Michael Hogan 0-1.

Team: Gavin Quill, Pat Barry, Brendan O'Driscoll, James Murphy, Gavin O'Flynn, Liam Forde, Jim O'Connor, Jason Pratt, Pat Walsh, Richard Cahill, Cormac Collins, Michael Hogan, Terry Broderick, Alan O'Keeffe, Jason Mannix. Cork Win.

As expected Cork Senior Hurlers had a comparatively easy win over Limerick in the Munster Senior Hurling semi Final last Sunday in Cork. The Cork side will now face Waterford in the Munster Final in Thurles on Sunday July 11th in what will be a glamour tie as the Rebels and Decie have given us many stirring games over the last decade.
