Erin's Own Lose out to Glenville

15 February, 2009

Erins Own marked their return to the East Cork Junior A Football League with a visit to Glenville on Saturday. Erins Own opened the scoring with a point from a free by Diarmuid O Flynn on three minutes. The first half was close with some good football being played by both sides. Seán Kelly cleared the ball off the goal line to prevent a certain goal on 20 minutes to keep the score @ five points to three in favour of Glenville. Diarmuid O Flynn pointed a free just on half time to leave the score seven points to five points to Glenville at the break.

Erins Own almost had the perfect start to the 2nd half when David Smiddy was put through on goal but the Glenville defence somehow cleared the ball to safety. Both sides swopped points early on and it took a great save from goalkeeper John Paul Mulcahy in the 43rd minute to keep Erins Own in the game. Glenville upped the tempo from here and pulled away to win by double scores at the end.

Erins Own’s experienced players Diarmuid O Flynn, Dáire Dennehy, Ian Quinlan, Michael Mulcahy and Seán Kelly lead by example and were well assisted by younger players Andrew Power and Niall Scanlon on a day that we were short many players. Overall this was a good team effort in our 1st game of the year .
