Junior Hurling League Div I
Lios gCul 0.15 Killeagh 1.09
A crucial victory for Lisgoold on Tuesday in Pairc Lios gCul over visitors Killeagh saw the home side consolidate their position at the upper end of the top division of the League . Charles Smart , dominant and powerful in his central defensive berth , led by example , and was well supported by the tireless and ebullient David Barry who lorded in in his "lar na pairce" role. Maurice O'Connell , as usual , was accurate throughout and punished our visitors repeatedly from deal ball situations , whilst the youthful trio of Peter Leahy , Rob Smart and John Cronin kept the white flag raised in our favour , especially during an impressive second half that saw us run out victors by a deserved three point margin.

The warmest day of the year so far culminated with a most entertaining league tie at Pairc Lios gCul on Sunday , where , before a sizeable attendance who enjoyed the convivial weather and decent fare on offer , our visitors took away the two league points on offer .
For the second game in a row , we failed to raise a green flag , and , to be fair , we didn't threaten too much either . An opening half hour where we had the advantage of the breeze saw us trail by 0.09 to 0.07 to the reigning East Cork Champions , but positive scores from John McCarthy and Peter Leahy , each of whom would catch the eye , saw our side well in contention throughout . Two booming scores from Ciaran (one of which went so high that the ball was in danger "of burn up on re-entering the stratosphere") kept the scoreboard ticking , as did the accurate freetaking of Maurice O'Connell. Shorn of the exam tied Rob Smart and John Cronin , manager Mike Woods afforded an opportunity to some less than regulars , but the intricate interpassing and superb first touch of the visitors sent the pair of league points east along the N25 as a beautiful early summer evening came to a conclusion .

As Declan pulled the numbers from the draw drum in Woods' on Tuesday , everyone's eyes turned to their own favourite numbers , but no one matched the three numbers drawn , being 1 , 10 and 14 , and therefore we have a roll over week yet again . Consolation prize winners were , Jer O'Connell ( x 2 ) Claire O'Leary and Owen Hegarty .

Well done to the Under 12's on their huge Championship success at a beautiful Castlelyons pitch on Monday night . It was fantastic to see such a huge turnout on the night to see the excellently run Under Age section garnish a richly deserved success . Well done to all concerned . Mol an oige , agus ... Further congratulations this week to all the young boys and girls who celebrated their First Holy Communion in Lisgoold on Saturday . The weather smiled as the youngsters , many already featuring on the playing fields as Young Blues , celebrated their day in style.

As an aside , our heartiest congratulations to our near neighbours in Castlelyons on their superb newly refurbished playing facilities , and your superb handling of the Cork v Galway game last weekend.

Last week's teaser asked if you knew who the captain of the Lisgoold Leamlara Ladies Football team , who recently reached the Final of the East Cork Junior Football Championship was ? So this week we pose the following teaser; "who was captain of the FIRST East Cork Under 12 Football Championship winning Lisgoold side ? I'll make this one easier , by offering a clue - the year was 1991 , and the manager was the late Bob O'Sullivan - so , who was the captain ? Answer next week .

Thoughts and prayers of all at CLCG Lios gCul are with the family of the late Elizabeth (Bessie) McCarthy , who passed away this week . Mrs McCarthy is the mother of Dermot McCarthy , who is the Chairman of our progressive Juvenile Club . Ar lamh Dheis De go raibh a h'ainm.
