Castlelyons 0-14 v Midleton 2-6

Junior Football League, Div 3.

The Junior football team traveled to Midleton on Saturday for the opening game of the season. The pitch, St Colman’s Community College, was very heavy as was to be expected. The weather was excellent.

Declan Wallace opened the scoring with a point in the first minute. Midleton got their first point from a free in the eight minute. Peter Murphy and Kieran Barrett added a point each and Declan got the fourth from a side line. Peter Murphy got his second point in the twentieth minute.

The twentieth minute saw Midleton fight back when they broke through to get a goal. Jack O’Leary finished off the scoring for the first half with Castlelyons’ sixth point

Castlelyons continued the scoring in second half by putting over four points in the first ten minutes. However Midleton had got a point in the second minute and their second goal came in the tenth minute and reduced the Castlelyons lead to a minimum for a very short time.

The final margin was two points in favour of Castlelyons. This was certainly a good start to the season. The young players, Mark O’Leary, Ronan Fenton and Larry Murphy played very well. Well done to all.
