Erins Own 1-10 Carrignavar 1-6

Erins Own were crowned East Cork Fé 21 Football champions in Midleton this evening. In a close contest the Erins Own men deserved their four point winning margin. Alan Bowen opened the scoring with a pointed free in the 2nd minute but Carrignavar struck for a goal minutes later . This was their only score of the half which was a poor affair with both sides guilty of poor shooting. Alan Bowen accounted for all the Erins Own’s first half points with three frees and one from play to leave his side leading 0-4 to 1-0 at half time.

Playing against the breeze in the second half Erins Own started well and bagged the first score with a fine point from Maurice O Carroll. The Glounthaune seemed set for victory when man of the match Séan Crowley raced upfield and scored a cracking goal to put his side five points ahead but Carrignavar raised their game and reduced the deficit to two points midway through the half. The standard of football improved greatly and with Brian McHugh doing great work in midfield and Maurice O Carroll much more influential in the second half Erins Own were able to respond to the Carrignavar threat. Ian O Mahony and Maurice O Carroll added late points to the Erins Own tally to secure the win on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-6.

Alan Bowen had the honour of the accepting the cup from Michael O Brien Chairman of the East Cork Board and we hope to add to this trophy as the season progresses.

We now look forward to representing Imokilly in the County later in the summer.
