Erins Own 0-15 Donoughmore 0-11

Erins Own progressed to round 3 of the Premier 2 Minor hurling Championship courtesy of a hard earned four point win over Donoughmore in Blarney on Saturday evening. In atrocious conditions with driving wind and rain Erins Own battled against the elements in the first half. Donoughmore opened the scoring with two points from play in as many minutes before Cathal O Mahony put Erins Own on the scoreboard with a pointed free in the 6th minute. Donoughmore continued to have the better of the first half exchanges and led 0-10 to 0-5 at half time with seven of their points coming from placed balls. Erins Own were thankful to the accuracy of Niall Scanlon who scored three excellent points from 65’s and their only score from play in the 1st half came from Ian Mylod midway though the half.

Erins Own’s play improved considerably in the second half and they piled on the pressure from the throw in. Cathal O Mahony converted two frees and Niall Scanlon put over a 65 to reduce the margin to two within minutes of the restart. We were well on top now and with some some astute changes from the line the game turned in our favour and we were level on eleven points each with ten minutes remaining. Cian O Callaghan put us in to the lead with a fine point and Ian Mylod and Brendan Monahan secured our passage to round 3 with the remaining points from play.
