Junior Football League

Ballinacurra 4-08
Glenville 0-11

The footballers secured another two valuable league points with a well merited victory against Glenville last Tuesday night. Ballinacurra got the perfect start with a goal in the first minute by full forward Killian Harty. Kevin O Brien had a point soon after before Glenville opening their own account with a point themselves. James Nagle replied for the Village with a long distance score. Glenville then scored three points without reply to leave the minimum between the sides.

A mazy run from the roving Tommy O’Leary resulted in a fine point with Kevin O Brien adding another soon after had The Village gaining the upper hand again. However Glenville hit back with three points without reply to level the match for the first time. Two late first half points from Kevin O Brien and Killian Harty had Ballinacurra going in at the break two points up.

In the 34th minute Adrian O Donovan popped over free from 40 metres out to open up a three point lead. A minute later, Denis McCarthy who was only on the pitch a couple of minutes, found the roof of the net and suddenly Ballinacurra were six ahead. Any chance Glenville had of staging a comeback was short-lived as Richie Keohane rifled the ball to the net in the 40th minute. Anytime Glenville did manage to find a way through they were denied by a resolute Ballinacurra defence. Alan Creedon produced a wonderful save in the 44th minute to keep the Ballinacurra goal intact.

Glenville did add two points before Damien Daly replied for Ballinacurra. Glenville scored points in the 53rd and 56th minutes before Scott Richards again found the net for Ballinacurra in the dying seconds of the match. The Village ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 4-08 to 0-11. Best for The Village were Tom O’Leary, Ian Cahill, Damien Daly and Kevin O Brien. The most pleasing aspect of the game was the brand of football played by Ballinacurra and the fact that nine different players scored.
