Erin's Own Notes

Erins Own 1-5 Glenville 0-9

Erins Own will have to progress through the back door if they wish to defend the East Cork Minor Football Championship following a one point defeat to Glenville last Thursday. In a very disappointing opening half we trailed by 0-6 to 0-1 at halt with Niall Scanlon getting our only score after 20 minutes.

Erins Own emerged a better balanced team in the second half with the selectors many a few positional changes and we took the game to Glenville from the off. We had early points from Dylan McNamara, Cian O Callaghan and Paul Ryan before Cathal O Mahony forced the ball to the net following a goalmouth scramble. We were now leading by a point and should have increased our lead but some very poor shooting on the night cost us victory. However with room for improvement we look forward to the draw for the next round.

Team; Ryan O Neill, David Leahy, Cormac Dooley, Cormac O Connor, Brendan Monahan , Kieran Moynihan, Evan Horan, Niall Scanlon(0-2), Calvin O Callaghan, Cian O Callaghan (0-1f), Cathal O Mahony(1-0), Andrew Gannon, Ian Mylod, Paul Ryan(0-1), Ciarán Forde. Subs, Dylan McNamara(0-1), Daved Twomey.

Erins Own 2-7 Killeagh Itas 0-6

Our Minor hurlers returned to winning ways in the Premier 2 Hurling league with a good win over Killeagh Itas in Caherlag on Saturday. Playing with the wind we started well with Cathal O Mahony opening the scoring from a free. Calvin O Callaghan added to this score before Kieran Moynihan thundered into the game and scored 2-2 in a ten minute spell. Killeagh Itas kept in touch with a few pointed frees but Erins Own led by 2-7 to 0-6 at half time.

We were expecting Killeagh to dominate the second half but the wind at their backs but in fact they failed to raise any flag which credit must be given to our defence which was excellent on the day with Calvin O Callaghan, Ian Mylod and Kieran Moynihan also impressing. The only two scores of the second half came from Niall Scanlon in the 24th minutes and Cathal O Mahony in the final minute of the game.

Team; Barry Óg Murphy , Daved Twomey, Cormac Dooley. Cormac O Connor , Paul Ryan, Niall Scanlon(0-1), Kevin Fenton, Calvin O Callaghan(0-1), Ian Mylod, Niall Galvin, Cathal O Mahony(0-3 2f), Evan Horan, Cian O Callaghan, Kieran Moynihan(2-2) , Ciaran Forde. Sub William Fenton, Conor Blackton.

Our Senior Hurlers enjoyed their third win of the league with an impressive 3-16 to 3-9 win over Carrigtwohill on Friday night. The Carrig lads were in front a half time on a 2-6 to 0-8 score but an excellent team display we powered through the second half aided by impressive displays from Paul Fenton, Alan Bowen and Dáire Dennehy. Our next Senior game is against St Finbarrs in Caherlag on Wednesday @ 7pm.
