CASTLEMARTYR GET LEAGUE CAMPAIGN OFF TO A GOOD START

CASTLEMARTYR..............................2-13

SARSFIELDS.....................................2-8

In a repeat of last years classic championship decider, Castlemartyr took both league points on offer in this opening fixture of the JHL Div 1 game at Paddy Walshe Memorial Park on Sunday last the 4th of April.

In what was a game of the proverbial 2 halves, Castlemartyr aided by the strong breeze were quick to settle and dominated the opening 30 minutes. A lead OF 1-8 TO 1-0 at the short whistle was a fair reflection of the first half proceedings, the goal coming from the towering full forward Mark Bowens.

The second half was a different kettle of fish however, Sars now backed by the elements came roaring back and a quick succession of scores saw the teams level with aquarter of an hour to go. However when substitute Dessie Murphy set up Eddie Clifford for a fine goal with 7 minutes left to play, it was the signal for the Reds to finish the stronger, and they ran out the winners in the end by 2-13 to 2-8.

It was good to see Colm O Keefe back in the Red jersey again after a long lay off from injury, and will surely be in the running for a championship berth when the time comes around. Young gun Brian O Tuama also impressed in the middle of the field, and played plenty of ball throughout.
