Erin's Own Notes

Erins Own 0-11 Slieve Rua 1-11

Erins Own and Slieve Rua played out an exciting Minor hurling league game in Riverstick last evening. Erins Own started brightly and opened the scoring from a Niall Scanlon free. Slieve Rua equalised with a free of their own and two evenly matched sides served up a good hours hurling. Our defence was excellent on the night with Barry Óg Murphy rock solid in goal. The midfield pairing of Calvin O Callaghan and Ian Mylod did great work in midfield while up front Kieran Moynihan ran the show with four excellent points from play. Slieve Rua playing with the wind scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half but we had further points from Scanlon, Moynihan and Cathal O Mahony to leave the half time score 1-8 to 0-6.

Erins Own now with the wind to their back were on top in the early stages of the second half and were awarded a penalty which Niall Scanlon pointed. We followed this up with two more pointed frees but despite several near misses could not make the breakthrough for the goal we deserved. Kieran Moynihan had two points in this half but we will need greater punch up front to secure victory in upcoming games. We were delighted however with the effort and commitment of the boys in this game.

We now turn our attention to football as we play Glenville in the Championship on April 8th in Rathcormac at 6.45pm.

A great night was enjoyed by the large attendance at the 1959 Knockraha and 1984 Erins Own teams’ reunion at the Vienna Woods Hotel last Friday night. It was great to see so many of the 1959 team in particular so lively and well done to the organising committee for the hard work put into this event.

Our Junior Footballers open their championship campaign against Russell Rovers in Rostellan at the unusual time of 9pm next Wednesday 31st March. The next Senior hurling league game is against Barney in Blarney at 6pm on Sunday April 4th.
