Decky Guckian League Eochaill v Mayfield

Youghal's second game in the Decky Guckian League was a home tie against Mayfield. Youghal started well with a point from Jake O'Brien followed by a stunning goal from Colm Breslan. Jack Dorrain was in flying form in the half forward line. Jake O'Brien got his first goal from a great pass from Christian Persaud. With Kyle Brown, Evan Kennedy and Jack McGrath in the defence, Mayfield failed to register a point against Youghal. Further goals from the two “Jakes” put Youghal on their winning way.

Result: Eochaill 4-3 Mayfield 0-0. They also had their 3rd game against Watergrasshill on Saturday last and it was 3 in a row for the under 10's. Well Done!

Match Report: 15th March - Under 16's East Cork Football League Top Field

Eochaill v Carrignavar Result:Youghal 4-16 Carrignavar 1-4

Match Report: The Under 16 footballers got their league campaign off to a good start on Monday 15th against Carrignavar. Right from the throw in Cillian Ansboro and David Twomey at midfield were impressive. Up front David O Mahony, Dean Malone and Dale Donoughe played well. At center back Lee Mc Carthy marshalled the defence , with both corner backs, Gareth O Regan and Mark Coady playing well. In the end the lads ran out easy winners, with Cloyne next up in the league.

17/03/10 U15 City League Football Eochaill v Nemo Rangers

Result Eochaill 4-13 Nemo Rangers 1-3 (Eochaill v's Brian Dillons 26/3/10)

Match Report: Our Under 15 footballers travelled to Trabeg on St Patrick's morning to take on Nemo's second team in the city league. Right from the start Youghal took control of the game with midfielders Cian Daly and Aidan O Neill. Up front, the full forward line of Ryan Coady, Bill Mc Grath and Tomas Coleman had the Nemo defence under pressure all day. Aaron Hogan at centre forward worked hard, linking the play between defence and the forwards, with help from Andrew Joyce and Ollie Dempsey who kicked some great scores. At center back Colin Keenaghan had a good game cutting of the Nemo attacks with the help of Tommy Kennefick and Jake Power. In Goals Dylan Mason had a quite first half, but when called into action in the second half made three great saves and in front of him the full back line of Conor Finn, Chris Morrison and Kash Ranson played well. The second half saw the introduction of Mark Flaherty at half back, and Sean Farrell to the full forward line who scored a good goal after a great ball from Danny

Walsh. Next up the lads play Brian Dillons on 26/3/10.

Match: Intermediate HurlMatch: Intermediate Hurling League v. Kilworth

Venue: Copper Alley Date: 14/3/10 Result: Eochaill 0-16 Kilworth 1-13 (Draw)

This was a satisfactory opening league encounter considering there were several panel members on the injured list. The match provided the selectors with the opportunity to give several young players their first taste of competitive action at this level.

Youghal opened brightly with some good early points & led 0-6 to 0-3 mid-way thru the opening half. However, Kilworth came much more into the game at that stage & had a great chance of a goal before half-time. The teams were level at half-time on 0-8 each.

Youghal went into an early 2nd half lead but Kilworth were proving to be determined opposition & took the lead with a goal with 10 minutes left. In fairness, the Youghal lads battled back strongly & took the lead with time running out. However, Kilworth had the last word with an equalising point from wide on the wing deep into injury time to force a draw, which was probably a fair result all-round.

Youghal Team: Eoin Coleman, Ml Cronin, John Grace, Andrew Sheehan, Brendan O'Sullivan, Conor Spillane, Barry Ring, Nigel Roche, Damien Ring, Brett Maloney, Brendan Coleman, Rich Cunningham, Ed Flavin, James O'Mahony, Andrew Curtin. Subs used: Keith McCarthy & Bill Cooper

ing League v. Mallow Venue Copper Alley

21st March Eochaill 3-11 - Mallow 0-10

Youghal got their first win in this league campaign courtesy of a comfortable victory against Mallow. Again short a number of regulars, the selectors continued to give valuable experience to a number of younger players, who in turn are measuring up very well to the standard required.

Playing with the wind, Mallow opened brightly with some early points. However, Youghal gradually worked their way into the game & dominated exchanges for long stretches. However, they found scores hard to come by. The scores at half-time were Youghal 0-6 Mallow 0-7.

Changes at half-time saw Pa O'Mahony replaced the injured Ed Flavin & Bill Cooper moving to full forward. These moves had the desired effect. Bill had an early close range goal & shortly afterwards Pa set Bill up for another great goal. Youghal continued to hold this lead for the remainder of the half before Brett Maloney raced through for 1-1 in the closing stages to seal the win.

A satisfactory result but the performance will need to be stepped up further over the coming weeks when greater tests will await this team. Brendan O'Sullivan had an excellent game at corner back, while the half-back line was very strong all through. Bill Cooper & Brett Maloney got some great scores up front but generally point-scoring from play needs to be improved upon.

Eochaill Team: Eoin Coleman, Ml Cronin, John Grace, Brendan O'Sullivan, Conor Spillane, Brendan Coleman, Barry Ring, Nigel Roche, Damien Ring, Brett Maloney, Bill Cooper, Rich Cunningham, James O'Mahony, Ed Flavin, Andrew Curtin. Subs used: Pa O'Mahony, Shane Spillane & Keith McCarthy
