Erins Own 2-15 Ballinhassig 8-6

Erins Own tasted defeat in round 2 of the Premier 2 Minor hurling league in Caherlag today. Balinhassig opened the scoring with an early goal but gradually Erins Own settled into the game and with two points from Niall Scanlon and one from Cian O Connor were back on level terms on 15 minutes. Erins Own took the lead when Niall Scanlon pointed a 65 and the lead was stretched further as Ciarán Forde netted an fine goal on 20 minutes. Erins Own were well on top now with Cormac Dooley outstanding at centre back and Cathal O Mahony very strong on the forty. Approaching half time we were in a commanding position but conceded 1-1 in the final minutes of the half to leave the half time score 1-7 to 2-2.

As Erins Own turned to play with the breeze in the second half we were confident of a strong performance but unfortunately this was not to be our day. Ballinhassig blitzed us with four goals in a six minute period early in half and we were chasing the game after that. Nobody could fault the effort of the lads however and we continued to get fine scores and it was good to see us fighting to the end. Cian O Callaghan was rewarded with a goal in the final minutes and we move on to our next game against Slieve Rua on March 31st.
