Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 13 December 2021.

Castlelyons GAA Club Annual General Meeting – Friday 17th December at 7pm.

The holding of the Club AGM is the most important gathering of the year. The meeting was arranged for a November date originally, but we were involved in games at the time and that evening was unsuitable. The Chairman has decided to hold the Club AGM on this Friday 17th December at 7 pm in the Community Centre. There are a few vacancies to be filled especially at Secretary, PRO and Lotto Manager including a few outstanding since last year. The attendance of club members, commitment and energy put into this AGM will no doubt set the tone for the running of the Club for 2022. Club Officers and Sub Committees please have their reports ready. The following agenda is proposed.

  • Adoption of minutes of 2020 AGM.
  • Adoption of secretary's report.
  • Review and adoption of Treasurer’s report.
  • Other Officer & Sub Committee Reports.
  • Chairman's address.
  • Elections of Officers.

So, looking forward to a good attendance and please ensure if your attending be fully vaccinated and / or have recovered from COVID-19 within the last 6 months. Please wear masks & ensure social distancing.

Co-Op Superstores Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship 2022.

The County Competition 2022 details have been published by the County Board. There are twelve teams in the 2022 championship and each team will get at least three games as there are three groups of four teams. Castlelyons as losing finalists 2021 are top seed A with Bandon and Ballinhassig while Valley Rovers, Kilworth and Carrigaline are seeded B. Then Ballincollig, Castlemartyr, Éire Óg, Inniscarra, Watergrasshill, Youghal are seeded C/D. It all adds up to a cracking intermediate championship for 2022 with some great teams involved.

Of course, a couple of weeks have gone by since Castlelyons going well with the end in sight lost out in the county final to Courcey Rovers by just one point. No doubt about it, the players, management, and supporters still feel this loss in the craw. But life does not wait for one to recover, it moves on. There’s no going back to change what happened as the past is in the past. There is a saying that you are never a loser until you quit trying and, hopefully, the Club will learn from the loss use it as motivation and move on.

Moving towards Christmas in uncertain times.

As we move toward Christmas there is an amount of uncertainty all around us. We are living through a global pandemic and jobs, health, and relationships, much of what lies ahead in life remains uncertain. We crave to feel safe and have a sense of control over our lives and well-being. Fear and uncertainty can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, and powerless on the future. This can cause an emotional drain and worry about what tomorrow may bring. But think about the positives. There are so many working so hard to care for those affected by Covid and endeavouring to develop new treatments. We are looking forward to the boosters rather than vaccines this time last year. This time last year we were in lockdown. There is a big improvement in our lives as we had a good year of games and fun and freedom again.

Happy and Peaceful Christmas to all

Here’s to Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and all the fun and games during 2021. Stay safe, good, and kind. Wish you all a peaceful and happy Christmas.
