Glenville GAA Notes

Glenville GAA notes for this week.

By John O Connor PRO Glenville GAA Club.

U21 football championship final (2020)
Glenville 0.10 Erin's own 0.13

Glenville and Erin's own met in Ballinacurra last Sunday afternoon in the delayed 2020 U21 B Football championship final. Glenville overcame Castlemarther, in the semi final the previous week, while Erin's Own overcame Bride Rovers in the other semi final, so a close game was anticipated. And so it came to pass. A good first half, had us in front by 8pts to 6pts. In that 2nd quarter we played our best football with some very good scores bring carved out in the forward line. As the 2nd half progressed we still had our noses in front at 9pts to 8pts at the 2nd water break with Erin's Own upping and ante since half time. A few missed opportunities by us in the last quarter saw Erin's Own take theirs, and when David butler blew the final whistle after a tough hours football, Erin's Own were ahead by 3pts. Final score was Erin's own 0.13 Glenville 0.10

Disappointing to loose and hard luck to the lads who did well to get to the final and were unlucky not to bring the cup home. Well done to Erin's Own on their win.

Dads and Lads

Dads and Lads is a social football and Hurling programme for those keen to enjoy Gaelic games outside the traditional competitive structures of the GAA. The philosophy of GAA for Dads & Lads is all about participation and the camaraderie that only team sports can offer. The small-sided adapted games allow for incidental contact only (to minimise any risk of injury) so skills are to the fore over physicality. The games are self-governed – no referees. We recently started a Dads and Lads football group in Glenville and it has proved a great success so far, with numbers increasing every night. It's open to all and no previous experience of playing football is required.

Clubshop update for Watergrasshill GAA and Glenville GAA

In 2021, both Watergrasshill GAA and Glenville GAA put their clubshops online with O'Neills Sportswear. Coming up to the Christmas period, we are advising members of both clubs that club leisurewear ( e.g. jumpers, tracksuit bottoms and jackets) should be ordered online through the O'Neills website. O'Neills may have limited availability on certain items but keep an eye on the website as they are updating the online shop as soon as new stock comes in.

Any leisurewear purchased from the O'Neills website with the Watergrasshill or Glenville crests sewn or printed onto it are considered personalised items and cannot be returned. Please refer to the sizing guide on the O'Neills website before purchasing any clothing. Both clubs hold limited stock of club jerseys, shorts and socks and will do a shop together at a later date. This will be on a first come first served basis. Keep an eye on Facebook/Instagram for further details.
