C103fm 44th report 6th Dec
Here we are the 1st week in Dec and we have 6 minor teams in county league finals this week end.
Last week In the Ulster Bank Minor C 12 a side Hurling County Championship final Bride Rvs lost to a strong St.Fachtnas the Kilmacabea/Rosscarbery Combination. while they was only 3 points in it at the brake the West cork side pulled away in the second half to win by 3-17 to 11 points
In the Ulster Bank Minor B football county league semi final Aghada had a great win over Ilen Rv at Ballineen in a tight game. Some outstanding football was played by both sides with the west Cork side looking the better at the sus leading by 5 points to 3. what ever was said in the dressing room Aghada came out a different team and went on to out score Ilen by 5 points to 1 to take the honours. They now play Naomh Abán tomorrow in Macroom’s second field at 2-30. Naomh Abán had a big win over Courcey Rovers by 3-13 to 1-5. in the other semi final. this final should be another cracker
On sun we had 3 minor county league fixtures with all the East Cork sides winning.
in Bandon, Erin’s Own had a big win over the home side in the semi final of Ulster Bank Minor A hurling by 2-17 to 1-5. this sets The Caherlag boys up for a home game against Mayfield who defeated champions Eire Óg by 2-05 to 1-7. Erin’s Own are hoping to go one better in this final but will find it hard going the game is timed for 2-45 on Sun evening. A game well worth seeing.
also last Sun Carrigtwohill and O’Donovan Rossa’s clashed in the semi final of Ulster Bank Minor A football. Carrig had their work cut out here as the Skibb lads are the county champions. Still Carrig were not county u16 premier champions for nothing this was a famous victory for Carrig over a shell shocked Skibb side final score 2-6 to 10 points. Carrig now travel to Mayfield to take on Kinsale who had an equally good win over Millstreet by 1-12 to 5 points. Carrig will hardly slip up now. This game is timed for 2-30 on Sun
also last Sun Castlelyons had a fine win over Sam Maguire’s in the Ulster Bank County Minor B Hurling League semi-Final by 2-19 to 3-08 to put a 5th East cork side into a county final this weekend. This game is fixed for Fermoy at 2-30 tomorrow against Kilworth who also had a big win over Kinsale in the semi by 5-9 to 6 points. This final will go to the wire and will be hard to call.
Today we have Kiltha Óg the Dungourney/ Castlemartyr side out in the Ulster Bank Minor C 12 a side Hurling County league final against St.Fachtnas the Kilmacabea/Rosscarbery Combination side. Kiltha Óg will hope to go one better than Bride rvs last weekend and win this one. Yet the west cork men have the form and will be hard to beat.
On Monday night at 8-00pm in Rostellan Midleton play Douglas in the Ulster Bank Premier Minor league semi final both teams were beating in the semi final of the championship and will be looking to go on better and make the league final.
On sun last we completed our program for 2008 when Midleton (2). Had a narrow win over Bride Rvs in the Star homes J H L div 2 final in Rathcormac. In a fierce tight game Midleton added to the Rovers woes when they won by 1-11 to 1-10
While all our finals are played we have two relegation play offs in the Leagues.
Today in the Star homes Junior hurling 2 Watergrasshill host Sarsfields at 2-30 with the loser going down to Div 3. in the corresponding league game the hill had a big win by 3-16 to 0-12
On Sun in the Star homes Junior hurling 3 Sarsfields are out again this time travelling to take on the home side Killeagh at 2-30. in the very 1st league game Killeagh won by 3-11 to 1-11
I would like to thank Killeagh for holding our convention last wed night. A large crowd gathered to review the year’s workings of the board.
Billy Cody made his fair well address to the board as P R O while Killeagh’s Tracey Kennedy made history as the 1st female to become an officer of the board.
County board chairman Michael Dolan addressed the gathering. As did Peter Hogan vice chair minor board and Regina Abernathy Juvenile chair person. The board’s president Derry O’Brien of Cobh attended as did Killeagh’s President Tom Fitzgibbon. The 1st Meeting of the new board is fixed Wed 14th Jan at 8-00
