AGM

The 2021 Killeagh GAA AGM took place on Monday 15th November 2021. There were many topics up for discussion across the club. Our Runaí, Mary Fitzgibbons’s report was a detailed one of over 12 pages covering all aspects of the club which included the teams, Golf Society & Classic, Healthy Club Project, Killeagh GAA Supporters Club, Cork GAA Clubs Draw, the Road Race, the annual Lotto report and much more.

Treasurer Michael Cowhig presented a detailed report of the Financial statements of the club and he outlined the importance of fundraising within the club to keep it afloat on a weekly basis especially when the Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone so much.

Chairman Colman Motherway thanked all who gave up their time on a weekly basis to help out in the club in any shape or form. Colman outlined some challenges over the past few years and wished everyone well going forward.

Finally, to the Election of Officers and they were elected as follows;

UNDER 16 FOOTBALLERS LOSE OUT IN COUNTY FINAL

Rebel Óg Coiste Premier 2B Football Championship Final

Sam Maguires 0-13 Killeagh 2-3

It was a disappointing day out for the Under 16 footballers in the County final in Bishopstown last Saturday week. We had four of our regular players unavailable for various reasons but we were still going out for the win.

Both sides started very slowly with some bad wides and lots of missed chances. We were awarded a penalty in the second half that could have changed the game and given us the edge we needed, but it was not to be. As they say, scores win games and, in the end, Sam Maguires put away 13 shots for points to our 5 scores and that was the difference.

Something we lacked on Saturday, which has stood to us all along, was our team work and our ability to score. Lots of improvement is needed the hurling final. Well done to the boys who put in a great effort against a very fast, skillful team. Thanks to Pauline (who was kept very busy), Denis, Colman and for all the support we got from parents and friends.

Team: Fionn Murphy, Harry Connon, Liam Considine, Michael Doherty, Michael O'Donovan, Ben Walsh, Diarmuid Buckley, Dylan McCarthy, Pierce Geary, Sean O'Riordan, Sean Meade, Colm Cowhig, Martin Power, Colm Leahy, Jack O'Connor, Tadhg Considine, Jack Coleman.

UNDER 16 HURLERS CLAIM TOP HONOURS IN P2B FINAL

Rebel Óg Coiste Premier 2B Hurling Championship Final

Killeagh 4-12 Eire Óg 1-9

The U16 hurlers played their county final last Saturday in Bishopstown. We played Éire Óg on what was a bright but bitterly cold day. Killeagh started well, with a couple of great points from Séan Meade and Colm Leahy, followed up by two great goals from Conor Burns and a cracker from Sean Meade. At half time we were 3-6 to 0-4 up and well in control.

The second half saw some good scores plus another cracker of a goal, this time from Colm Leahy, who gave a man of the match display. Not only did he score a very respectable 1-5 in the game, his work rate up & down the pitch was exceptional and what was even more exceptional was the leadership he showed before and during the match. His talk with the team before the game was a huge factor in the improvement of their work rate and attitude from last week.

This game had plenty of brilliant saves, blocks, hooks, goals and points. Harry Connon, who started at full back, even went up forward and scored a great point! It was a fantastic team effort from start to finish and when Jack O Connor lifted the cup, the disappointment of last week was forgotten. This was a great competition for the boys, and to finish it with a trophy was not as important as having some familiar faces coming back to play with the team.

Sincere thanks to Denis Doherty, Colman Motherway, Patrick Mulcahy and last but most importantly our medic Pauline Meade. We could not have competed in this without all of your efforts. And thanks again to the parents for all their support and for giving us this amazing group of boys. Hopefully they will continue to watch out for each other and support each other into the future. As always, it was a pleasure!
