Dungourney hosted our first East Cork Final since 1991 on Sunday October 31st last when St Itas took on Erins Own in atrocious conditions. The weather Gods were  not on our side in the week leading up to the match with inches of rain falling midweek and after a bright Saturday Sunday was wet and windy …very wet and very windy.

Cometh the day though and cometh the hour because the Dungourney committee ably marshaled by Aidan Flynn and Orla sprung in to action, the pitch and it’s surroundings were prepared on Saturday and a small army of helpers arrived on Sunday to do the necessary jobs .  Every gate was manned ,teas prepared ,car park organized ,Money collected ,scoreboard operated and all the other jobs that needed doing done ,it was a mighty community effort and everybody involved should be proud on such an awful day.
A great crowd turned up considering the terrible day that it was and witnessed a tense encounter ,Erins Own had the wind in the first half and went in a point ahead at half time….you felt it wasn’t enough given the conditions .

Sure enough Saint Itas were much the better side in the second half and scored eleven points to Erins Owns solitary point ,Itas were East Cork Junior A Hurling champions for the first time in their history.
It was great to see the excitement and joy among the Gortroe people after the match history was made and there was a mighty roar when Seamus Harnedy raised the Jamesey Kelleher cup. Well done to Saint Itas and hard luck to Erins Own.

The new Astroturf pitch in Dungourney is up and running and is very busy, a lot of the times are booked but there are still slots available so if any group or team need an hour get on to the bookapitch website choose Dungourney school and all the details are there.

A date for your diary the Dungourney GAA Annual general meeting takes place on December 3rd in the club rooms , we are not sure yet on the numbers allowed to attend ,it will depend on Government guidelines at that time.
