Glenville GAA Notes.

Glenville 4-7
Carrigtwohill 2-12

Glenville pulled off a brilliant win against Carrigtwohill on Sunday morning, when scoring 2-2 in the dying moments to win by a point. Behind 1-6 to 1-3 at the interval, Ben scoring a great goal in the opening half to keep us in touch.  Carrig got on top in the 3rd quarter to race into a 7 point lead.

Callum scored an excellent goal after the resumption to bring it back to 4, however carrig pulled away again after kicking 3 more points to move ahead by 7. Then the madness of the last few minutes, Brendan goaled to bring us back into contention and after callum kicked a great point the deficit was back to 3 points in injury time. Then Sam was pulled down in the square and after a long wait, he cooley slotted the ball to the net to bring the sides level. Then in the last play, the ball broke to Éanna who kicked a fantastic point to go ahead for the first time in the game and win by a single point.  This was a great effort from the lads and they showed great determination and belief to pull out this win. We now go on to play St Colmcilles in the final in 2 weeks.

Intermediate football championship Round 2
Kilshannig 0.14
Glenville 1.07

Glenville and Kilshannig clashed in round 2 of the Intermediate football championship on Saturday evening last in Killavullen.  It was a perfect day for football and the pitch was in excellent order. Kilshannig started the brighter and kicked over two quick points early on to get them up and running. Glenville took a while to get going and we spruned a few good scoring chances early on. Slowly we got going and good play had us kicking over a sweet point. Kilshannig were menacing at the other end and seemed to get their scores easier from play and placed balls. At half time it was 5 pts to 1pt to kilshannig.

On the resumption Glenville upped the tempo and eventhough kilshannig were always a treat, our lads began to play. We kicked 2 good points early on but kilshannig replied with a few good scores of their own. Glenville were thrown a lifeline when we got through for a good goal and followed it up with 2 more well taken points.   At the second water break it was kilshannig 0.11 Glenville 1.05.  On the resumption Glenville kept the momentum going and both sides were score for score. Try as we might we couldn't get the second goal we needed and kilshannig ran out deserving winners. However, All is not lost and now it goes down to a round 3 game v Glanworth in three weeks time to see who progresses. Well done Glenville on a good performance.

Junior CFC v Youghal

We finally got this fixture played on a beautiful balmy night underlights. We fielded a team which featured a lot of young players and a sprinkling of more mature players. Glenville led for most of this game and put up a great show against a very strong Youghal side but unfortunately we lost our way in the last 5 mins which Youghal turned a 3 point deficit into a 7 point win with a late flourish. The scoreline is very flattering to Youghal as the Glenville performance deserved better. Again it cannot be underestimated that we again fielded in this grade with our 3rd string side and had 23 players togged out on the night.
Attention now turns to the County Junior B championship against Garnish in a few weeks time as well as the crunch Intermediate championship game against Glanworth.
