Erins Own 1-13 Fermoy 0-9

Erins Own opened their league campaign with a good win over Fermoy under lights tonight. In a low scoring 1st half Erins Own opened the scoring with a Cian O Callaghan point in the 4th minute. Fermoy enjoyed plenty of possession in the early stages but their finishing was poor and many scoring chances were wasted. Erins Own stretched the lead when Cian O Callaghan was on the end of a side line cut from Niall Scanlon for the only goal of the game. Cian O Connor and Niall Scanlon(free) added to the East Cork’s side tally before Fermoy opened their account with a point in the 20th minute. Fermoy found their range in the final minutes of the 1st half with three further points to leave the half time score 1-4 to 0-4 in favour of Erins Own.

Erins Own grew in confidence as the second half progressed which resulted in a much improved performance. Niall Scanlon was excellent in the middle of the field and finished the game with eight points, Cormac Dooley and Kevin Fenton were very impressive in defence while up front Cian O Callaghan and Ciarán Forde caught the eye. Even though Fermoy threatened to close the gap at times in the 2nd half Erins Own were in control and got scores at vital stages of the game. This was a very encouraging start for the boys and our next game will be against Ballinhassig at home on March 21st.
