Youghal v Killeagh Ita’s Saturday 6th March 2010 Venue – Top Field Youghal

Result Youghal 1-1 Killeagh Ita’s 1-0

In a thrilling encounter, Youghal opened the scoring with a great point from Jake

O’Brien. This was followed by a stunning goal from Padraig Quilligan. A Killeagh goal after the break put sever pressure on the Youghal defenders but Youghal were unlucky not to go further ahead with a great first time effort from Conor Cremin that was brilliantly saved by the Killeagh goal keeper. Despite a late charge from Killeagh, Youghal held out for a narrow victory over their close rivals. Many thanks to the parents and supporters who encouraged the Youghal lads over the line.

Intermediate Football League 27th February 2010 Result Fermoy 0-8 Eochaill 0-4

Match Report: Youghal was seriously off the pace in the first half and but some tremendous saves by Pat Mackey would have been in an impossible position at half time. Nigel Roche, Barry Ring and Oisin Murphy fought valiantly to stem the tide but Fermoy led 0-7 to 0-0 at half time. By that stage also Stephen Kelly and Keith McCarthy had to retire injured.

There was a huge improvement in the second half and Youghal took the battle to Fermoy and an early point by Shane O’Flynn and Nigel Roche gave further encouragement. Further points by both players brought Fermoy within sight unfortunately a clear goal there was not taken and Fermoy rallied to score a late point win the game by 4 points. Cleary improvement is required but the second half performance was encouraging.

Team: Pat Mackey, Cathal O’Laochda, Andrew Sheehan, Aaron Kenny, Micheal Cronin, Barry Ring, Alan Frahill, O’Connor, Nigel Roche, Oisin Murphy, Keith McCarthy, Ciaran O’Mahony, Jas O’Mahoney, Stephen Kelly, Conor Spillane, Shane Flynn, Victor O’Shea, Daniel Spillane.

Intermediate Football League Eochaill v Courcey Rovers Result: C. Rovers 1-5 Eochaill 0-6 5th Mar

Match Report: Failure to avail of numerous opportunities for scores ultimately led to defeat in this well contested game. We scored only 3 points in each half and this was not sufficient to secure victory. Nevertheless there was a big improvement in performance from the previous League game and with the necessary training and scoring levels will improve.

On the night Pat Mackey, Paul O’Driscoll, John Grace, Leigh Desmond and Nigel Roche stood out with Nigel and Leigh accounting for 5 points between them.

Team: Pat Mackey, Vincie Murray, Paul O’Driscoll, Aidan Foley, Andrew Sheehan, Barry Ring, John Grace, Oisin Murphy, Leigh Desmond, Jas O’Mahoney, Nigel Roche, Alan Frahill O’Connor, Ger Cotter, Eoin Coleman, Aaron O’Connor, Stephen Kelly, Ciaran O’Mahony

Match Date: 7th March 2010 U15 City League Football Final Score: Youghal 2-9 St Finbarrs 0-6

Next Match: Vs Nemo Rangers Date TBC Match Report: On Sunday March 7th Eochaill Og welcomed St Finbarrs to Copperalley for 3rd round of the Under 15 football city league. After our championship exit the week before the lads were ready to get back to winning ways. Captain Cian Daly won the toss and decided to play with the wind in the first half. From the start Youghal took advantage of the wind and applied the pressure on the Finbarrs goal. After kicking a number shots into the keepers hands the Youghal lads found their range and finished the half 6 points to 2 up at half time with Andrew Joyce kicking the last 3points with good running from midfield.

The second half saw the introduction of Bill Mc Grath to full forward and Chris Savage to left half forward. With wind at their backs the Visitors started well and kicked the first 2 points of the half. Then with the move of Colin Keenaghan to center back and Mark Flaherty to Corner Back Youghal began to control the game. The hard working Cian Daly at midfield and half forwards Aaron Hogan and Aidan ONeill were always available to take the ball out of defense. Up front Ollie Dempsey and Tomas Coleman kicked great scores. With ten minutes to go Tommy Kennefick made a great tackle and cleared the ball to Cian Daly who carried the ball 40 yards, to set up Bill Mc Grath for a great goal and close out the game.

7th March 2010 – 2009 Minor Hurling League Final Eochaill v Lisgoold

Result: Eochaill 1-3 Lisgoold 2-4 Venue: Copperalley – 11.15 am

Match Report: Very much a game of two halves! With the wind assistance, Lisgoold started very strongly and established an early lead. Only for a great double save by Adrian Curtin, Lisgood could have been well clear after 20 minutes, but a great James O’Mahony goal before half time left everything to be played for.

Slow to settle in the 2nd half, the Youghal lads strugged to make any inroads into the Lisgoold lead. However they finally opened up in the last 10 minutes with a series of great scores to finally settle the issue over a gallant and strong Lisgood outfit. After winning the Inter-Divisional League Final two weeks ago the 2009 Minor Hurling team have go the season off to a great start. Best for Youghal were James O’Mahony, Aaron Kenny & Conor O’Sullivan. Congratulations & Well Done to our Minor Hurling League Winners and to the manager, mentors, trainers & selectors and a special word of the thanks to all the Eochaill supporters.
