Glenville GAA News

Last weekend was a good one for the football teams in the club with four wins from four games played.
Glenville hosted o Donovan Rossa from Skibbereen in the second game of Division 2 Football league in lovely conditions on Sunday in Glenville.
Glenville played against a stiff breeze in the first half and were well in control all through limiting Skibb to just three points and defending very well in this half.We got some excellant scores with direct running through the centre and well worked moves resulting in our slender 4points to 3 half time lead.
We began the second half very strongly and converted a couple of early second half frees to further enhance the lead.Skibb looked dangerous going forward but could never get through a strong Glenville defence.Skibb kept eating into the lead and reduced it bit by bit and had the score down to three with time running out when a harmless looking ball wasnt dealt with in the Glenville defence and the inrushing forward got his fist to the ball to goal and level the scores, with the expected full time whistle not coming one last Glenville attack resulted in a well worked move and K Coakley broke through the defence to goal with the last play of the game.Glenville winning out 1-9 to 1-6..Good well deserved result from the lads.
Meanwhile the U12 footballers had a facile win over Inniscarra in the first round of the league on Saturday evening last in Fouhy park.playing a fast open brand of football which was a delight to watch,Glenville were too strong for a gallant Inniscarra side who in fairness never gave up and kept playing to the end..Final score was Glenville 5-17 Inniscara 2-5.

The minor footballers began their league campaign on Monday last under lights in Castlelyons.Conditions were perfect for the game.Castlelyons were quick off the mark and had us in all sorts of trouble early on going 2-2 to no score after 15mins.Gradually Glenville came into the game and got organised in defence tackling very well and making gradual inroads up front.7 points in quick succession left us in a strong position at half time.A hard working second half performance with every player work ing hard was the key to this and a penalty from Will Connolly and fabulas scores from Brendan Moloney,James McCarthy and a super goal from Ger Hogan after a 60yard run put us well ahead again.Castlelyons kept fighting all the way to the end but couldnt get the necessary goal they needed to save the game and even a super penalty save from Aidan Foley prevented a tight finish.Final Score Glenville 2-13 Castlelyons 3-6.
The U14 footballers with only a few on the age had a great win over Cobh on the same night,Although Cobh we physically stronger Glenville worked the ball better and even though were down four points at half time ,they produced a strong second half showing to run out comfortable winners 4-17 to 4-7.
U21 Football Final
Finally this game goes ahead Wednesday night in Carrigtwohill against Glanmire and hopefully Glenville can pull off a win here. It would be a great start to the year but will be up against a strong Glanmire side who will be very difficult to overcome, time for the game is 7 would be great for the lads.
