Glenbower Rover 2-11 Fr O’Neills 1-17

A windy day for the first match in the club for over eight months. Football is the usual season opener and Fr O’Neills visited Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Monday afternoon last. Killeagh got off to a perfect start with a first minute point from Sean Long, but O’Neill’s built themselves into the game over the next 10 minutes with four points. Ritchie Long stopped the rot with a score in the 12th minute, his older brother Sean adding a free in the 13th before a well worked move from midfield saw a superb goal scored by Adrian Galvin in the 14th minute. At the water break, Glenbower led 1-3 to 0-5. O’Neills got the better of the second quarter though a quick point off the water break before Dan Lucey got a black card in the 24th minute for a body collision off the ball impeding the runner and the visitors finished the half strong, leading at James Bermingham’s short whistle 0-11 to 1-4.

The hosts came out thundering in the second half with scores from Galvin (0-2) & Johnno O’Connor inside the opening five minutes before Seanie Walsh was fouled in the square resulting in a penalty and sweetly converted into the roof of the net by Sean Long, 2-7 to 0-11. The visitors scored three further points again before getting a goal of their own, a mistake in defence left them one on one with Dave Quinlan but couldn’t do much about the finish, 2-8 to 1-14 the visitors led at the water break. But we levelled again by the 52nd minute, points from Sean Long & Sean Walsh. But we finished the game with 14 men as Aidan Morrison got a black card for pulling his opponent down and the visitors capitalized on the numbers advantage getting the last three points to claim the league points.

O’Neill’s take on Aghada in a fortnight's time before we face Aghada in the final game of the League Cup. Championship start on July 1st, draw will be known on June 21st.

Team: D Quinlan; D Lucey, B Motherway, A Morrison; C Coughlan, C O’Brien, Dara Motherway; G Collins, C Deane; R Sinclair, A Galvin, R Long; S Long, S Walsh, L Fogarty. Subs Used: J Dullea, J O’Connor, D Kelleher, Dermot Motherway.

Killeagh 4-6 Aghada 3-4

Killeagh started well in the first quarter and dominated possession playing against a strong wind, however Aghada took control in the second quarter and went on to be leading at half time, 1-2 to 1-1.

Despite Killeagh having the wind to their backs for the second half, Aghada opened up a two point lead. Two great points though from Sean O’Leary in the centre back position brought Killeagh back level. The game was very close in the dying minutes with both teams taking their scoring opportunities. The hosts were that little bit more hungry and with some great link-up play went on to win the game with a final scoreline of 4-6 to 3-4.
