KILLEAGH GAA NEWS, May 17th 2021

By Patrick Mulcahy, Killeagh GAA PRO

As training for juvenile teams commenced from Monday 3rd, we ask that teams & supporters train and play under the following conditions;

1. All players / parents must complete the ‘Return To Play’ questionnaire in advance of their first training session and repeat in advance of each subsequent session.

2. Anyone with any symptoms of Covid-19 MUST NOT COME TO PÁIRC UÍ CHINNÉIDE.

3. Adults are asked not to congregate in groups while their children are training. You may use the walking track (walk anti clockwise) or watch training from outside the fence, but please observe social distancing, use hand sanitizer and wear a mask if at all possible.

4. If any player at any stage tests positive for Covid-19, you must inform your child's coach immediately.

5. Each team has appointed a Covid Officer who will be ensuring all protocols are adhered to. Please support him / her in keeping everyone safe.

Should conditions change at any point we may have to postpone or cancel training or matches, we hope that this will not arise but will be alert at all times.

Finally, a reminder to please register and pay membership online on in the coming days if you haven't already done so (thanks to those who have and to our Direct Debit Supporters).

See you all in Páirc Uí Chinnéide soon. Stay Safe

CLG Cilliath

Upon our return to the training fields, the Return to Play protocols need to be followed strictly. Please re-register yourselves for Return to Play online at

If a parent/guardian is stay to watch their child at training (for child safe-guarding reasons), we ask strict social distancing and public health guidelines should be adhered to at all times. In particular, it is important that parents do not congregate in groups before, during or after sessions, outside of what is permitted in current Government regulations.

Remember the basics, maintain your Social Distance, wear a clean face covering when distancing can’t be achieved, wash your hands regularly & reduce your social contacts where possible to an absolute minimum.

While we are delighted that many people and families are using Páirc Uí Chinnéide for exercise during the current restrictions, we must ask that NO DOGS are allowed onto the grounds, for reasons of health and safety of all users.

If someone needs to go running or have a kick/puck around, please use the Glenbower (Training) Pitch. If you are walking around our walkway, please remember to keep the Main Pitch on your left-hand side walking in an anti-clockwise direction.

I would like to mention and cannot emphasise how important your Mental Health is during these times. These times are so tough and restrictive on us all and can be quite damning at times but it is important to mind your mental state. If you have an issue wherever it might be, it is important to talk to someone and talk out your problems. There is always someone who will listen to your concerns and it can be a relief to get something off your chest. Just ask and talk.

Finally, we at Killeagh GAA club repeat our call for anyone in our community, especially the elderly or those loving alone, who needs assistance with shopping, household help or just a chat with someone over the phone, please contact in confidence Ray Rochford 087-2330054 or Colman Motherway 085-7540973 who will try to arrange appropriate support for you.

Go raibh milé maith agaibh.

With our players returning to training in the pitch in the last few weeks, it's time to pay for membership for 2021 (thanks to our adult players and Silver and Gold Supporter Direct Debits who have already paid for 2021). This year, we are encouraging all families and individual members (players and non-players) to pay online if possible, on the website. If you / your children used this site in 2020, this is what you need to do.

On the site, log on using your 2020 details. Go to Membership - Killeagh GAA - Register Now - check your details are correct - select the appropriate membership type for you - Register - (those paying Family or Silver or Gold membership please add all family members) - pay by card and you will get an instant receipt.

If you haven't already used, you will need to Register as a New User (you need a valid email address). Click the validation link you get by email, then follow the steps to add all relevant details. Make sure you choose Killeagh GAA as your club. Then Register Now and follow the steps outlined above.

We will alternatively take cash or cheques at the pitch when training resumes, but to help us to reduce handling of money, we strongly encourage online payment - it's easier for us and also for you.

If you have any queries, please give Colman a ring on 085-7540973.

Finally, as an incentive, all fully paid-up members before May 17th will be entered in a Confined Members Draw on May 31st with first prize of €200, second prize of €100, and four €50 prizes.

Thank you all for your continued support of Killeagh GAA club.

It was a bit of dip in the lucky bag with Cork teams over the weekend.

The Cork Hurlers got a draw out of the Semple Stadium clash with Tipperary on Saturday night, Cork 2-16 Tipperary 0-22. Cork lies second in the Division 1A table on three points, Galway on top on four points. Cork face Westmeath next Sunday afternoon in Páirc Ui Chaoimh, who ran Waterford to three points last Sunday.

Earlier last Saturday afternoon, it was a disappointing affair for the Cork Footballers who were just simply outsmarted by the Jack O’Connor managed Kildare in nearly every facet of the game. Kildare did lead by nine points at one stage in the second half but four late points in injury time made the scoreboard look a bit kinder, it finished 2-12 to 0-14 in favour of the Lilywhites.

Great start for the Camogie teams on Saturday. Laura Treacy, Chloe Sigerson & Hannah Looney all featured for the Senior team in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in their 3-14 to 0-16 point win over Tipperary in Division 1.

While the Intermediate team which features Stefanie Beausang, Ciara Daly & Rachel Sheehan were in Division 2 action on Saturday, away to Tipperary’s Intermediate winning 2-13 to 0-14. Well done to all!

Last week the Cork GAA Club Championship Draws took place. In the Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship, we have been drawn against Cloyne, Fr O’Neills and Newcestown. We will play those teams in that order. Our league fixtures will be against Douglas, Ballymartle & Kanturk. Those games will be played during June & July.

The East Cork Board were scheduled to hold a meeting last week but because of the publishment of the Master Fixture plan, they postponed it until next Wednesday night, May 19th. The East Cork Board are due to release their 2021 plans over the coming week or so and we will let you know what happens when we find out.

We are delighted to announce that our Clubs Nursery will continue next Saturday at 12pm for boys and girls born in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Please pass on to any other Killeagh / Inch parents of children born in 2016, 2017, 2018. Any questions please ring or text Colman 085-7540973.
