Co Minor “A” Regional Football League:
In Group 1 of the Co Minor “A” Regional Football League “match of the week” honours must go to Gael Og and Passage for the high scoring performance they served up in Whitechurch on Sunday afternoon last. In what a remarkable contest, which produced eleven goals and nineteen points in total, a late goal from Sean Keane earned Gael Og a share of the spoils 7-05 to 4-14. Passage who had strong displays from Stephen Kenny, who was their top scorer with 3-05, Mark Howard, Darragh O’Driscoll, Jack Sommers, Corey Higgins, Gary Tett and Niall McCarthy led at the break by the bare minimum 0-10 to 2-03 but in the second half goals were the order of the day and with time ticking away if looked like the visitors had secured victory but in one final assault the home side who had battling performances from Barry Harmony, Aaron McCarthy, Colm O’Neill and Sean Keane were not to be denied and with Keane grabbing the equaliser a draw was a fair result.
Blarney earned their second success of the league when they had a narrow 1-11 to 0-12 victory over St Michael’s second string in Rathpeacon on Saturday last. In what was a fine competitive game in which both sides produced some excellent passages of football the Mid-Cork side had solid displays from Andrew McCarthy in goal, Tony Looney, Ciaran Buckley, Damien Hyde, Keith Costello and sub Darragh Dineen while Rory Murphy, Alan Nolan, Andrew Murphy and Paul Delaney gave a good account of themselves for a young St Michaels side. In the second half they maintained their momentum with some well taken points from Lynch, Derek Canty, Cathal Crowley and Darragh Crowley and although Brian Dillons never threw in the towel they had to give best to their opponents who ran out deserving winners.
