CHAIRMAN’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

To all our Killeagh GAA members, supporters and everyone in our community:

The officers and committee of Killeagh GAA club would like to think of our many family members, friends and neighbours who have left this world during this strangest of years. We wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas with your families and loved ones.

While it won't be our usual Christmas and New Year, with many restrictions imposed on us, we ask that you continue to follow guidelines from our leaders and to maintain your vigilance and resilience to help us all to overcome the personal and societal challenges this virus has visited on us.

As we move on from the darkness of the Winter Solstice, we can be certain that we will literally, and hopefully metaphorically, see brighter days ahead. May 2021 bring you all good health, happiness and joy. Go n-eirí go geal libh go léir sa bhliain atá rómhainn.

COVID-19

This week has seen a high rise in the number of cases which is now a precarious situation to be in. During the Christmas period over the next few weeks, we ask all members to be cautious at all times going forward and remember to keep your Social Distance, wear a face covering where possible, wash your hands regularly & reduce your social contacts where possible.

Remember, if you have any of the following symptoms; Fever, A Cough, Shortness of Breath or Breathing Difficulties, please contact your GP for advice & do not attend Páirc Uí Chinnéide until cleared by Public Health.

Also, it is important to check in with elderly family members & neighbours to make sure that they are all ok, fit and healthy. If anyone has a problem or needs to talk to somebody, please contact a member of the Killeagh GAA Officers in the knowledge of confidentiality will be kept.

We all have a personal responsibility in an effort to reduce Covid-19 so play your part in the local community and you should protect yourself and everyone around you.

PÚC FADA

With the increase in coronavirus cases and the advice for all of us to reduce our social interactions, we have taken the decision to postpone our annual St. Stephen's Day Poc Fada. We had hoped to be able to

hold it with some restrictions, but we feel it would not be the correct decision as things currently stand. We hope that we will be able to hold it in the Spring or early Summer if conditions improve and a suitable date can be found. We trust that you will all understand this decision.

We ask all members and supporters of Killeagh GAA to please follow Public Health Advice at all times. Follow the simple steps as advised by Public Health; keep washing your hands, stay socially distant, wear your mask & reduce your daily contacts to avoid the spread. Thank you.

KILLEAGH GAA SUPPORTERS CLUB DRAW

The annual €5,000 Giveaway for the Killeagh GAA Supporters Club Draw was made last week and a huge congratulations to Donie & Mary Treacy who picked up first prize of €2,000. The full results are attached at bottom of the notes.

PITCH UPDATE

Please note both the Main Pitch & the Clashdermot (Lights) Pitch will now remain closed for Pitch Maintenance until February at earliest. The Glenbower pitch will remain open for training or pucking/kicking around for the next few months. We ask all teams, mentors & club members to respect this decision as we prepare our pitches for the 2021 season. If you wish to book the pitch for training for the months of December & January, please contact the PRO via email regarding such.

CONVENTION SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE

We had two conventions over consecutive nights last week. First up was the East Cork Board convention which was held virtually online. Donal O’Keeffe chaired the meeting and took over 1hr 15mins. As well as the delegates joining the Board were County Chairperson, Tracey Kennedy, Development Officer Pat Horgan & Coaching Officer Ronan Dwane.

Donal O’Keeffe in his speech thanked the clubs for their tireless work and continued support during the season. He congratulated his own club Lisgoold for winning Jamsey Kelleher for the first time in history. He thanked Avril Geary, outgoing PRO for her work during 2020. She is unable to continue due to her ongoing work commitments. He also thanked Michael O’Brien & Kieran McGann for their continued work on the board and have now completed five years as Runaí & Cisteoir respectively. The position of Secretary on the Board remains vacant until First meeting of the new year.

The Cork GAA Annual Convention took place last Thursday evening once again being held virtually. In the region of 200 people logged online to listen to the various reports of the officers of the Board which took over two hours. Tracey chaired the meeting from Páirc Uí Chaoimh where they had a professional set up in place to ensure everything could run smoothly.

There was a few topics of debate, one being the Rebel Bounty Draw where the Carbery Division & clubs are not too happy with the structure of it. This draw is to ensure both clubs and the County Board can gain profitable finances going forward.

The other topic of debate was the Financial side of the Board & the Stadium. There were questions in from the Freemount Delegate John O’Flynn & Muskerry Board Delegate John Feeney but due credit to Diarmuid Gowan of Fermoy, he had everything in order and all was well explained.

Finally, it was Tracey Kennedy’s final Chairperson’s Address after three years at the helm of Cork GAA in which she has done sterling work overseeing many difficult projects. Killeagh GAA PRO Patrick Mulcahy spoke on his clubs behalf honouring their highly esteemed member and about her accomplishments over the past three years. He wished her well on her future endeavours within GAA circles and especially in Killeagh GAA club!

REBELS’ BOUNTY LAUNCHED WITH PROMISE OF €500,000 IN PRIZES

One lucky winner will win the top prize of €100,000

Tickets are now on sale for Rebels’ Bounty, a new fundraising initiative by Cork GAA designed to support Cork players, clubs and county. The initiative offers a spectacular total prize fund of €500,000, with one lucky club member set to win €100,000.

Rebels’ Bounty is an initiative of Cork GAA to give clubs a significant opportunity to raise funds at a time when traditionally fundraising has been impacted by restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Tickets for the draw cost €100 each, and tickets will be sold directly by any executive member of Killeagh GAA or on line at gaacork.ie/rebelsbounty. In every draw, there are 30 cash prizes, ranging from €100 to €20,000. In April and December, the top prize will increase to €25,000. In December, the bumper prize of €100,000 will be given away. The first draw will take place on Wednesday, February 24th where prizes will be draw for January and February 2021.

All the funds raised by the Rebels’ Bounty will be directly and indirectly invested in Cork GAA clubs. The draw is designed to ensure that most of the funds are kept locally to help improve facilities and equipment, while the remainder will be used by Cork GAA to invest in programmes such as Rebel Óg and supports for inter-county players.

Tracey Kennedy, chairperson of Cork GAA, said “The Rebels’ Bounty is a unique opportunity for clubs to raise funds locally, and keep those funds locally. This has been a difficult year for all our clubs, and we hope that members across Cork will stake their claim in the Rebels’ Bounty to support players from under 5s to inter-county. We hope that the new prize structure will provide an even better incentive for members to buy and for clubs to sell tickets. This prize fund will be distributed across the entire county. We would like to wish everyone the best of luck, and thank them for their efforts in supporting the future of our clubs and our county.”

Speaking at the launch of Rebels’ Bounty Kevin O’Donovan, CEO/Secretary Cork GAA commented “Following from the launch of One Cork we are now delighted to official announce details of Rebels’ Bounty, marking the beginning of a new fundraising era for Cork Clubs. We have increased the prize fund to ensure maximum return for our members, with 30 prizes monthly. We listened to our members and all 30 prizes are now in cash. 2020 has been a unique and difficult year for our clubs and I’m delighted to launch this appeal allowing clubs to raise vital funds at a time when it is extremely hard to do so.”

Tickets for the Rebels’ Bounty are being distributed via any member of the executive committee, club officer or club co-ordinator for the draw, Dave Barry on 0878123352. ‘IRELAND LIGHTS UP’, the popular walking initiative, is returning in January 2021 in partnership with the GAA, Operation Transformation, and Get Ireland Walking.

For a fourth year, Killeagh GAA in association with the Killeagh Healthy Clubs project will turn on their floodlights to provide for community members a safe walking environment during the dark winter evenings. As ever, Operation Transformation (which returns to our screens each Wednesday from January 6th to February 24th) will shine a light on Ireland Lights Up by showcasing participation clubs each week of the hit RTÉ show.

Ireland Lights Up will take on an additional significance in 2021 as people have increasingly turned to walking to support their health and wellbeing since the onset of the pandemic. While we can’t predict the level of Covid-19 restrictions we will face in the new year, the organisers of Ireland Lights Up and our clubs involved will take every due diligence to ensure those who want to enjoy a walk at their local GAA grounds can do so safely and within recommended public health guidelines. Measures include:

· Registration process with Get Ireland Walking to track all club and participant involvement

· A new club ‘MyLife Steps Challenge’ with Irish Life, CSR partners of the GAA Healthy Club Project, to ensure ‘Every Step Counts’

· Once-off grant for clubs to support the cost of delivering Ireland Lights Up (provided by Healthy Ireland through Sport Ireland, T&Cs apply)

Uachtarán CLG, John Horan, said: “GAA volunteers have gone above and beyond when supporting their communities during this pandemic and I have no doubt our clubs will once again support this great walking initiative come the new year.

“Club walking tracks remained open during the second lockdown period and thousands of community members have benefitted from accessing them. Ireland Lights Up isn’t about maximising numbers this time around, it’s about providing community members, particularly those most vulnerable to Covid-19, with a safe place to enjoy some outdoor exercise while adhering to the public health guidelines.”

Speaking about the initiative Frank Feighan T.D. Minister of State for Public Health and Wellbeing said: “This is a wonderful initiative that helps everyone up and down the country to get out safely, be active and to reach their recommended 30 mins of physical activity each day during the dark winter months. At Healthy Ireland we are encouraging everyone to make a plan for themselves to keep well this winter and one of the easiest ways to do that is by getting out and getting active in the fresh air as often as you can. I congratulate the GAA and Get Ireland walking for their work on making this initiative possible this winter within the Covid guidance.”

Clubs that complete the registration process for Ireland Lights Up and adhere to the necessary criteria will be covered by Get Ireland Walking's insurance for all walk leaders and participants. However, irrespective of GAA membership status, leaders and participants are not covered by the GAA Injury Benefit Fund for this initiative. All clubs that register will be issued details of how to apply for the once-off Healthy Ireland / Sport Ireland grant (max €1,000 per club) to support the costs of delivering the initiative.

In addition to Ireland Lights Up, the GAA’s Community & Health department will deliver with Irish Life a club ‘Steps Challenge’ hosted on the Irish Life MyLife App. During the initial lockdown in June, 12,000 walkers representing almost 450 clubs recorded 2.2 billion steps over the four weeks on the MyLife App. Regardless of participation in Ireland Lights Up, all GAA clubs can get involved in the Steps Challenge and a separate communication will be issued this week to clubs outlining how to get involved. Some great prizes will apply.

GAA COVID-19 UPDATE;

Advice to Clubs and Counties – for activities post December 1st (Released 1st December 2020)

CLUB SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

1. Club Games

Under the new Level 3 Restrictions announced by Government and which take effect from December 1st, Club games are not permitted – only approved inter-county games can take place.

2. Club Training

In level 3, underage and adult training can take place, but must be on a non-contact basis in pods of up to 15.

All clubs and players are reminded that Health Questionnaires and all other relevant control measures must continue to be followed.

No training of any kind is permitted at club level in the Six Counties, either outdoors or indoors until midnight on Thursday December 10th 2020 at the earliest. Further advice will issue from Ulster GAA once it is available

3. Use of Indoor Team Facilities

Dressing rooms, showers and all other indoor training facilities should remain closed for club activities.

Club Gyms in the 26 Counties may be opened for use by individuals only, with protective measures in place. Players/Teams must not train in groups.

Further advice on protective measures for gyms is included as an Appendix to this document. The GAA will continue to monitor the situation with regard to club gyms and if our Covid Advisory Group are not happy that the advice for use of gyms is being properly adhered to, it may lead to their closure again.

4. Committee Meetings

No indoor meetings can be held.

5. Officer Training

All officer Training must be delivered online. Outdoor coaching education courses may be held but are subject to a 15-person maximum.

6. Club Bars

Club Bars that do not serve food must remain closed until further notice

From Friday 4 December, Club bars that are operating as restaurants (i.e. serving a substantial meal) can open for indoor dining with additional restrictions, including a requirement for meals to be prepared on site, inside the premises, and with a maximum of 6 people per table.

Club bars must follow all the relevant protocols for the sector.

All Club bars in the six counties must remain closed or in the case of those offering restaurant services continue offering take away food only until midnight of Thursday 10th December 2020, at the earliest. Further advice will issue from Ulster GAA when it is available.

7. Indoor Events on GAA Property

Commercial use of indoor halls continues to be permitted where agreement was in place prior to March and relevant insurance are in place. Use by State bodies e.g. HSE/Schools is also permitted.

These are the only instances in which indoor activity is permitted on GAA Club property.

8. Outdoor Events on GAA Property

Gatherings of up to 15 people only are permitted. As such, fundraisers such as fittest family, Couch to 5k etc should not be organised.

Drive in events may be held subject to clubs requesting extension of insurance cover from Marsh Ireland or GAA Insurance section; however patrons must remain in their vehicle for the entire duration of the event with no access to club facilities including toilets. Cars attending such events should only contain people from their own pod.

Other events such as Poc Fada or Road bowling should only be organised if they can be limited to 15 people and face coverings must be worn.

ADVICE FOR 2ND LEVEL SCHOOLS AND 3RD LEVEL INSTITUTIONS

9. Games and Training

Neither competitive nor challenge games are permitted in 2nd Level schools.

Training is permitted on a non-contact basis in pods of no more than 15 people

Games are not permitted to take place at 3rd level under the latest Government restrictions – in addition, as it is recommended that Higher Education should remain primarily on line, no training sessions are permitted in 3rd level institutions in either jurisdiction until further notice.

INTER COUNTY SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

10. Training and Games at Senior, Minor and U20

The GAA are awaiting clarity from Government as to whether U20 and Minor games can take place. We will provide this to Counties as soon as it is available.

In the interim, Teams still involved in the 2020 Minor Hurling and Football and 2020 U20 Hurling and Football Championships are permitted to resume training from December 1st on a non-contact basis in pods of no more than 15 people.

The teams still involved in the 2020 All Ireland Senior Championships are permitted to continue training as normal.

Collective Training is NOT PERMITTED for any other inter county teams currently.

2021 Inter County Competitions The GAA is currently finalising its fixture programme for 2021. Each grade will have an appropriate pre-season identified for it to allow for adequate preparation for 2021 competitions.

The fixtures programme, as well as dates on which a Return to Collective Training will be permitted will be available in the near future.

In the interim, no collective training is permitted for 2021 inter county competitions.

11. Use of Indoor Team Facilities for Inter County Teams (2020 Championships)

As senior Inter county activity has been classified as an exemption to the normal restrictive provisions by the Government, use of indoor facilities for Inter County Teams only is permitted and should be carried

out in accordance with the Return to Training and Play for Inter County Teams advice document issued in September.

Counties should ensure that where multiple teams are using the same venue for training (e.g. a Centre of Excellence) that only one team is on site at a given time.

Adult Club players living in a County classified as Level 3 may travel to their Home Counties to participate in Training.

12. Attendances at Inter County Games

In Level 3, all inter county games must be played behind closed doors.

Arrangements for the remaining games in the 2020 Championships in terms of access for additional panel members and backroom teams will be communicated directly to the Counties involved once clarity is received from Government in terms of what is specifically proposed (numbers allowed etc.)

For Minor intercounty games or training sessions staged behind closed doors and because they involve players aged 17 and under:

· One designated individual (parent/guardian) per player may attend a training session or game per child/family/group of children.

· The GAA Health Questionnaires MUST be completed by parents/guardians in advance of attendance.

Parents are NOT permitted to be in attendance at U20 games where their child (U18) is participating. However, provision can be made to allow an adult to be in close proximity (e.g. in the car park etc) in case medical or other emergency needs require their presence.

Appendix – Advice for Use of GAA Club Gyms

The following advice – taken from the Ireland Active Framework for Safe Operation should be followed when opening Gym facilities:

• Social distancing of 2m should always be maintained

• Participants should not congregate before or after activities, and facilities should design internal flows to reflect this.

• Facilities should plan for a maximum of 1 person/4 square metres* (2mx2m) and in accordance with government advice on maximum capacities for indoor activities.

• Ensure adequate ventilation, avoiding recycling of air to avoid possibility of infection, in accordance with HSE/HSA guidance

• Carry out frequent cleaning of surfaces and wipe downs of contact surfaces with single use disinfectant wipes or strong disinfectants and microfibre cloths.

• Users should not share towels, water bottles etc.

• All of the standard infection control guidance from the HSE should be heeded.

• There should be no hands-on adjustments or physical contact during training.

• Spacing of exercise machines/equipment should be undertaken to ensure 2m distance between equipment. An alternative may be to use every second piece of equipment or the closing of certain stationary equipment to ensure 2m distancing.

• Equipment which is 2m apart should not be placed where exercisers are facing each other.

• Spin bikes should be staggered and spaced 2m apart to avoid spray back.

• Loose equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells, free weights etc. should be used by one exerciser and cleaned in between each use by users/staff.

• Booking of time slots should be employed in order to enable safe management and recording of users in the facility.

• Where spotting of weights is being undertaken, face coverings should be worn

All areas, within the gym, where social distancing is particularly challenging should be kept closed – Players should not enter the gym facility prior to their assigned reservation

Adequate signage and reminders should be provided at entrances and in strategic places within the gym providing instruction on social distancing, hand hygiene, use of cloth face coverings or masks, and cough and sneeze etiquette.

COACHING AND SAFEGUARDING COURSES

Ahead of the 2021 season, a call for all our mentors and coaches to fulfil their duties of completing their respective Coaching & Safeguarding courses with a matter of urgency. As outlined prior to the Pandemic, all persons involved in helping out the team management or players that are in the Under 18 or younger categories will need to be E-Vetted.

We will be contacting the respective coaches/mentors who need to attend training in time, but for the moment we ask that ALL COACHES should start or complete the mandatory online E-Vetting process. You can do this by logging onto gaa.ie, search for the E-Vetting section and complete the necessary steps as outlined. We need these completed before we return to the green fields of Páirc Uí Chinnéide. The latest club draw of €2,400 took place on last Tuesday December 15th. The numbers drawn on the night were 4, 7, 12 & 15. We had no winner of this week’s draw. The €30 Lucky Dip winners drawn were William McAuliffe & Claire Lynch while the €30 voucher for East Cork Oil, Burgess was won by Dan &

Shauna Landers & the €30 voucher for Tom Kelly’s Butchers was won by Aneta Florek. Congratulations to all our Christmas Draw winners as well, hopefully you have all been contacted to get your prize! This week's Jackpot is €2,600.

And to let people know, usually we take a week off next week each year for Christmas Holidays, but because we missed a draw in March, we will make up for it on Tuesday 29th to make sure we stick to our commitment for our yearly lotto players!

KILLEAGH GAA GOLF SOCIETY:

With the lifting of Level 5 Covid 19 restrictions recently, all golf clubs are allowed to reopen which is great to see.

The postponed final of the 2020 Killeagh GAA Golf Society Matchplay between Padraig McGrath and Haulie Collins will take place over the coming weeks for the Fr. Glavin Trophy.

Our Traditional final event of the year is the Christmas Scramble which takes place every year at West Waterford Golf Club. This year because of the large entry, it will be held over two days. IT will be on Monday & Tuesday December 28th & 29th respectively. Both days starting at 10:30am.

The event is a 3-person team event through a simple scramble format (Best Ball everywhere). If you wish to play, please contact Ray Rochford
