Intermediate Football Championship
Glenville 2.11
Millstreet 1.13
Glenville Intermediate footballers made the trip to Donoghmore last Saturday evening to take on millstreet in round 3 of the championship. After two narrow losses to St. finbarrs and Ballinora,  Glenville were well up for the fight and started brightly with an Adam Murphy point.
Soon after William Connolly kicked over. Millstreet opened their account with a point and quickly followed by another minor before Josh Cooke kicked over a good free. Millstreet replied with a neat point before adam kicked another good point from play. The game ebbed and flowed and good football was played by both sides. Millstreet levelled on 25 mins with a pointed free, and just before the break Millstreet got in for a well taken goal, which was quickly followed by a point and we trailed at halftime on a score line of 1.06 to 5 pts.
Millstreet kicked over the first score of the second half and suddenly Glenville found themselves 5 pts in arrears. Sencing danger Glenville responded and a peach of a pass from James Gowen sent Shane field through for an excellent goal. Millstreet again replied with a point. Josh kicked a free, but again Millstreet responded to leave 3 between the sides.  Adam kicked his third point from play just before the water break, to leave the score line 1.09 to 1.07 in Millstreet's favour. On resumption Millstreet kicked 2 more points in succession, to go 4 clear. Glenville made a few changes and young gun Sean Desmond on his arrival kicked a good point on this introduction, before James Gowen kicked a beauty  from the sideline. Shane field scored a point and when Adam kicked his fourth point, Glenville were playing really well and when James gowen kicked another beauty off his left it left the sides level with 2 minutes to go. Super sub PJ Dennehy was to become the hero of the hour when he split the defence with a powerful run and he buried the ball in the back of the net to put Glenville ahead by 3. Millstreet weren't finished yet and kicked over a pointed free soon afterwards and when their corner forward kicked another it left the minimum between the sides.  As the final minute ticked down Glenville held their nerve and when the final whistle went, Glenville were worthy winners.  Final score Glenville 2.11 Millstreet 1.13
This was a great game of football, played in a great spirit. Well done both teams.
An excellent performance from Glenville,  who really performed well when the chips were down.
From 1 to 15 and the 4 subs who were used, everyone gave what they had, and the effort from all was immense. This was a sweet victory and the lads showed fantastic spirit and put the pride back in the black and amber jersey. Well done all.
Well done to the team and management on a great victory.
