Cork County Intermediate Football Championship Round 1
Glenville 3.07
Ballinora 2.12
Glenville just came out on the wrong side of this round 1 game played on an excellent sod in Grenagh on Saturday evening last. Glenville played with the strong breeze in the opening half.Ballinora got the opening score but Glenville quickly got into their stride with a good Colin Cronin point from 30 yards out to get us off the mark. Soon after Sean Desmond got on for a great goal and this was followed by an Adam murphy point, and it seemed to settled us well. Josh Cooke hit over a free and Ballinora kicked over their second point shortly afterwards.  Glenville kept pressing on and a great ball from Dan Dennehy to Adam, and he made no mistake with an opportunist goal to rattle the net. Glenville were playing well . Ballinora tacked on a point before Sean (2) and Adam again knocked over two good points.  A lapse in concentration let ballinora in for what was a soft goal on our part, and from the next play ballinora kicked over a point leaving the halftime score Glenville 2.06 Ballinora 1.04 after an eventful first half.
Ballinora came out strong in the second half and kicked the first 3 points of the second half. Then disaster struck for us when we were reduced to 14 men, and shortly afterwards we conceded a penalty which ballinora duly obliged. At this stage everything was going against us, and Ballinora were taking the game to us, but we kept at it, with young Andrew Desmond making a telling contribution when introduced. James Gowen kicked a good point for us,  but we had alot of wides from scoreable opportunities.  Ballinora were still 3 points ahead heading into added time when a ball from Dilan O Donovan found the ever dangerous Adam, and he again and he made no mistake with another brilliant goal. Sides level now, ballinora pointed again,  we had opportunities and were unlucky when we hit a post also at the death. Try as we might we couldn't get another leveler and on the last attack ballinora pointed to close out the game.
Final score
Glenville 3.07
Ballinora 2.12
This was a disappointing defeat as we had a good first half. We missed alot of opportunities and sometimes took the wrong option. But this is the first game and Glenvlle will learn from this. Next up is St Finbarrs on Aug 15/16th

U14 East Cork D2 championship:
Glenville 11-09 (42) Castlelyons 3-05 (14)
Our U14s travelled to Castlelyons on Friday evening in their opening game of the 2020 Championship.
The U14 squad is small in numbers and was further depleted by injuries and holidays, so the U13 and U12 players were vital in fielding a team.
The game opened with Glenville scoring two points (Ryan Loftus and Shane O’Callaghan) before Castlelyons pushed hard, taking the game to Glenville and scored 1-02. Glenville replied with a point (Ciarán Linehan) to end the evenly fought first quarter down a point.
The game changed at the start of the second quarter with Glenville awarded two penalties, both converted to goals by Shane O’Callaghan. In the next ten minutes, Glenville built on this lead with Shane O’Callaghan adding a point, Ryan Loftus a goal and Cathal O’Brien (U13) scoring three goals with Castlelyons fighting back and adding 1-01 to their tally. Half-time Glenville 6-04 Castlelyons 2-2.
The third quarter saw Glenville add three more goals with one from Cathal O’Brien (U13) and two from Shane O’Callaghan with Castlelyons adding 1-03.
Glenville entered the final quarter on a scoreline of 9-04 to 3-05. Glenville added to their scores with a point each from Donnacha O’Leary and Eoghan Forde. Ryan Loftus added another goal, Ciarán Linehan and Bobby Kelleher added a point each before Donnacha O’Leary won a penalty which he converted to a goal. Ciarán Linehan added a final point from a free to see Glenville finish up 11-09 to 3-05.
Special thanks to the U13 and U12 players who were worked so hard in the game.
