East Cork GAA Update

30 June, 2020

Following the publication of the revised Cork County Championships for 2020 on Monday 29th June the CCC of Bórd Roinn Oirthear met last night.

The County Board has instructed all Divisional Boards to adhere to the rota of hurling and football fixture weekends.

Junior A Hurling Championship.

Will retain the same format as agreed with some minor changes.

As outlined earlier the championship will commence on Fri 31st July, When Cobh who will now meet Lisgoold in the opening round of Group 2. The opening games in the other 2 groups stay the same.

The other change is that the second round a week later will now feature the winner of the opening game not the runner up. This is to avoid the possibility of a team having only two weeks in hurling championship. The 3rd rounds are fixed for Aug 21-23rd.

In the event of a draw in the opening game a toss will take place to decide who plays in Rd 2.

County Q Finals are fixed for Oct 2-4th the divisional winner only this year

Junior A Football Championship.

Due to the fact that this Championship contains 16 teams the CCC felt that the football can not be run as agreed by the Clubs earlier in the Year.

It is with profound regret that the CCC has to move away form the formula that promised so much for football in East Cork.

Starting on the Weekend of 24-26th July (or if clubs agree could be brought forward a few days) this championship will now be a knockout competition only with no back door. Winner will be decided on the day.

The Q Finals will take place on Sept 4-6th and not on Aug 14-16th Aug to allow clubs space to complete their county hurling group championship programme.

This will mean a new draw will have to be made On Wed next 1st July at the board meeting in Lisgoold Community Centre.

It is hoped that all teams will remain in the competition.

County Q Finals are fixed for Oct 2-4th the divisional winner only this year
