CLG Eochaill Puc Fada Sunday February 7th 11 a.m.

The Puc Fada was postponed on St. Stephen’s Day due to bad weather conditions. It was re-scheduled again for Sunday last the 7th of February. 20 teams assembled in Copperalley on Sunday Feb 7th to take part in the 2010 Puc Fada on a bright but crisp morning. After being bussed out to the Water Pump all teams commenced the 3 mile track back into Copperalley with plenty of banter on the way. For the record the winers of Cathal O'Laoadha, Jody Cooper & Andrew Murphy completed the course with 44 pucks, followed in second by Steven Twomey, Aidan Foley & Michael Cronin with 46 pucks while in third place with 47 pucks were Barry Ring, Seanie Ring & Michael Kelly. Fixtures & Results

12th February Eochaill Junior Football League Youghal v–Carrigtwohill (Magniers Hill) 7.30 pm

Result: Youghal 1-7 Carrigtowhill 1-4

Team: Philip Monaghan, Vincent Murray, Andrew Sheehan, Cathal O’Laochda, Andrew Curtin. Aaron Kenny, Stephen Twomey, Oisin Murphy, Johnathan Ormonde, Daniel Mulcahy, Ciaran O’Mahony, Ger Cotter, Victor Cahill, Conor Spillane, Shane Spillane, Sean Crowe

Match Report:

This was a fast open game under lights in dry conditions. Carrigtwohill were on top early and led 0-2 to 00 after 10 minutes. Eochaill ralled to level but Carrigtwohill then scored a well worked goal to go back in the lead but a well taken goal by Victor Cahill left the score Carrigtwohill 1-2 Eochaill 1-2 at half time. Ger Cotter and Ciaran O’Mahony both scored a point each in that half.

Eochaill got well on top in the second half but kicked some very bad wides as they had earlier. Also possession gained was given away easily through poor placement and overplay. This was however a good competitive spirit in the team and they secured victory through good points scored by Johnathan Ormonde (1), Ger Cotter (2) and Oisin Murphy (2).

This was a good win secured by a team comprised of experienced and rookie players. We can expect continued good performances from the Junior Panel.

13th February James Bond Themed Casino Night

Article from East Cork Journal by Denise Fitzgerald

They did it again! There can be no doubt that the ideas flowing from the Social Committee of Youghal GAA are amazing. What may seem like an impossible event to organise or run, ends up being the most incredible night of all. And so it was with the latest Youghal GAA brain child – a James Bond themed Casino Night. Not just any old James Bond Night – oh no! Not for Youghal GAA. This night was organised with explicit and express dress codes and rules and, on paper, one would wonder if they had finally gone over the top this time. Who could imagine that all attendees would abide by the dress code imposed – all Black and White for the gents and, wait for it, - ‘chic’ for the girls.

On Saturday last, February 13th the East Cork Journal took a trip up to Club Arás to see what was happening on the top of the hill. Having been told beforehand to expect the ‘Red Carpet’ treatment, it was not surprising to behold a red carpet which covered the ENTIRE hall and which had been laid by the very active committee. The word ‘chic’ can mean many things to many people, but for the Youghal ‘girls’ it means exactly that. They arrived in the most wonderful gowns, outfits, mini mini mini skirts and tops, high heels, floating pashminas, feathers, beautiful hairstyles and long lashes. Without exception, they all looked absolutely stunning, and they knew it! But it must be said that, on this occasion, they were outdone by the guys who strutted their stuff, not in the proud maroon colours of their beloved club, but in the most amazing black and white outfits which would put any James Bond to shame.

Their efforts were more than met by the entertainment which was provided on the night. On arrival, each received a complimentary cocktail and the most delicious canapés were served throughout the evening. An award winning, internationally renowned Cocktail Shaker, Andy Ferreira, was on hand with a very well stocked cocktail bar at his fingertips, and he was kept on his toes all night shaking and rattling that cocktail maker.

The cead insteach was a mere €20 which included chips for gambling, the welcoming drink on arrival, endless delicious capapés, and a DJ who kept the twinkle toes on their feet all night...

Club Arás was indeed a ‘Casino Royale’, where the wonderful costumes were ‘For Your Eyes Only’

Yours sincerely
