Message from Tomás Ó Riain Ard Stiúrthóir Cumann Lúthchleas Gael

He had an informative message for all clubs and the following is a summary. He how the Irish Government moved on Sunday evening to confirm the closure of all pubs and bars in response to threat of Covid-19. Accordingly, this refers to all Clubs with licensed premises as their club bars too fall under this directive and must remain closed until March 29, before which further instructions will follow from the relevant department. Club gyms are also to remain closed.

Furthermore, playgrounds on GAA club premises should now also close. If it is not possible to lock gates, please put up notices advising that the playground is not to be used. Read up all possible information from the Health Authorities.

All this this guidance is for direct application in Ireland and Britain, but units elsewhere might wish to refer to it as best practice. County officers in Ireland and Britain are also advised to adapt these measures for county grounds and training facilities where applicable.

He is most thankful to all clubs, counties and members for their co-operation to date in playing their part in helping us - and by extension the country as a whole – to adhere to the measures issued last week as part of efforts to slow the spread of the virus.

He also acknowledges the special efforts many of our club units have undertaken to assist the wider community. Clubs are encouraged to assist their local health services and to continue reaching out to vulnerable people in our communities at this challenging time.

Congratulations to Denis Fitzgerald.

Congratulations to our neighbouring Rovers man Denis Fitzgerald who owned and bred the seven-year-old sensation in Cheltenham, Lisnagar Oscar. This horse is now owned by Racing for Fun and trained by Rebecca Curtis.

Lisnager Oscar won the Stayers’ Hurdle at a starting price of 50-1 but returned an £85.70 win dividend with Tote and £10.70 for a place. With 25 bonus points and 25 Grade 1 points added that yielded a total of 146.4 points to take his tally for the season to 158 and makes him the most valuable contributor to any team.

Denis was emotional when interviewed on Racing TV and for a man who is going to Cheltenham for 40 years this one is sweet as a nut for him. Take note he says he has many more where this one came from. Well done Denny from all in Castlelyons GAA.
