Fé 21 C East Cork Football Championship Round 2

Killeagh-Ita's 4-10 Youghal 0-07

Killeagh-Ita’s Under 21 football team made it two wins from two in this year’s Under 21 football championship with a win over a gallant Youghal team in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Friday evening last. Youghal played with the wind in the first half and were quite impressive at times but three early goals in the first quarter from Rob Sinclair, Ciaran Leahy and Keane Budds gave our team a 3-0 to 0-3 lead before two points from Sean Walsh stretched that lead. Youghal goalkeeper Conor Savage – impressive throughout – made a fine save from a penalty just before half time, keeping the game interesting. Youghal were first off the mark again in the second half, before a fourth goal from Sean Walsh and points from Adrian Galvin (2), Keane Budds (2), Sean Walsh (2), Ciaran Leahy and Cathal Fitzgibbon saw our team ahead by 4-10 to 0-07 at referee Shane Hodgins’ final whistle. Next up we host Carrignavar on Saturday 15th, time TBC.

Team: Andrew Foley; Ritchie Landers, Dylan Hogan, Dan Lucey; David Collins, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Jamie Landers; Dara Motherway, Ciaran Leahy; Adrian Galvin, Keane Kelly Budds, Barry Motherway; Rob Sinclair, Sean Walsh, Darragh O’Connor. Subs used: George Sinclair, Paul Delaney, Eoin Brenner, Olin Hennessy, Padraig Leahy.

East Cork Junior Football League Division 2

Glenbower Rovers 3-9 Midleton 2-13

Despite leading at various stages and such lengths throughout the game, our Junior footballers could not hold out Midleton for the vital league points after a late 63rd minute goal from Midleton. Glenbower Rovers got off to a perfect start with a goal after three minutes from Séan Long. Midleton battled back with three points of their own including a well worked score from Johnny Comer. Both sides went tit for tat before a second Long Goal in the 20th minute made the scoreline 2-2 to 0-5. Matthew Murphy added a point before a third goal before half time, a team goal worked from the half back line through the channels and finished off by Allen Keniry but Midleton cancelled this out with three further points of their own. At referee Brian Sweeney’s Half Time whistle, the scoreboard read 3-3 to 0-9 in favour of the hosts.

The second half the visitors scored the opening two points, before a Kieran Lane 30 yard free and John O’Connor point settled the home side. But a goal for Midleton brought the sides together level and Midleton took the lead in the 44th minute. The Rovers fought back with scores from Long, Keane Kelly Budds & Colin Walsh to have a two point lead going into the closing stages. Midleton reduced the

margin back to one. Glenbower then tried to kill the clock by holding possession in the centre of the field for over four minutes but couldn’t work a crucial score. Referee signalled three minutes of added time and in the second of those minutes, the score of the game coming from Matthew Murphy, a banana kick with the outside of the boot, left to right and against the wind saw the ball trickle in off the post and over to give the home side a two point lead. But from the resulting kickout, Glenbower were at 6’s & 7’s and the Magpies capitalized with a goal from the last play to win the game.

Team: David Quinlan; Aidan Morrision, Darragh O’Brien, Tadhg Crotty; Allen Keniry, Cian Fogarty, Gary Leahy; Ger Collins, Kieran Lane; Eoghan Keniry, Philip O’Neill, John O’Connor; Matthew Murphy, Sean Long, Bryan McCarthy. Subs used: Keane Kelly-Budds, Sean Walsh, Colin Walsh.

This past week, the RedFM Hurling Leagues were launched at RedFM Studios in Bishosptown and next Sunday 16th of February, the opening game of the RedFM Division 1 Hurling League takes place in Páirc Uí Chinnéide at 12pm. Our Senior Hurling team face Na Piarsaigh in our opening match and over the next few weeks we have some big games upcoming. Do please support the lads in these big games.

The Killeagh Healthy Clubs Project in association with Killeagh GAA will be ‘lighting up’ for the months of January & February every Thursday from January 9th until February 27th from 7pm until 8:30pm for all in your family and everyone in the local community to take advantage of walking around our facilities. Last week, another big crowd of excess 180 people joining us walking, jogging or running over 600km between them. Let’s make both those figures bigger this Thursday for week 5. And as you saw last week, we are in the middle of finishing our work on our new pathway which is on the outside of our new perimeter fencing of the main field. It is virtually complete only to clean up a few bits around it, but doesn’t it look wonderful adjoining our new fencing!

For our walkers, one full lap on the new pathway around our field is exactly 500m, so if you complete 10 laps, that is 5KM!! It will be a great way and incentive to get fit for the year 2020 ahead. We want everyone to come and join for Killeagh GAA Lights Up 2020!

So, do you want to get moving and active this New Year, but you have nowhere to go? Do you find it hard to find a safe and well-lit area to go for a walk, run or a jog during the dark winter months? Well, Killeagh GAA club has the answer! Why not join us for a walk ‘n’ talk with your friends or family and call in after for a cuppa or some fruit to keep you entertained on the walk, all for FREE!! We ask all members to attend if possible!

Or if you want to go for a jog/run in preparation for the 4 Mile Road Race on March 1st, join a group of runners at 7:30pm which is led by Dave Barry. The group take in a long loop (1km) on the outside perimeter of Páirc Uí Chinnéide. (Check out the poster attached).

Storm Ciara (and Storm GE2020) failed to keep the people at home on Sunday as existing members and many new families came to Páirc Uí Chinnéide to register for the 2020 season. Many thanks to all who registered and to the large team of helpers on the day. If you missed registration, you can do so at the clubhouse on Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th or Wednesday 12th between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Contact Mary Collins, Juvenile Secretary 087-6734010 for further information.
